One Year Without His Holiness John Paul II

Sun Apr 02, 2006 5:29 am

After one year from John Paul II's death, I would like to take a pause from arguing over immigration, politics and aviation. I want to start this thread as an opportunity to remember the Holy Father, a space to post that we miss him and how much we love him. John Paul II is now with the Father, at home, but we will always remember his kindness, his wisdom, his faith and over all his love for every person.

Thank you Holy Father! Please, keep looking after us now that you are with God!

His Holiness John Paul II, Vicar of Christ and Servant of the Servants of God

PS. I know JP II was a controversial figure. I'm well aware that many A.netters may have an unsympathetic view of him. I respectfully ask you to keep this thread only for those who want to express our love and respect for him. Thank you in advance.

Seems like yesterday... I can't believe how time flies.

Se ha apagado una luz en la tierra, pero se ha encendido una más brillante en los cielos.

Quoting SFOMEX (Thread starter):

Amen to that...
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

It's a good thread.

And it seems like just yesterday that he passed.

He was a great man, and loved by many, he'll be missed terribly missed.

It seems the world has gone on fine without him. We've even capitalized on his death by releasing a made for TV movie about him.

Time really flies. May His Holiness rest in piece.  tombstone

JP II wasn't the most popular person in my country, but I did respect him especially what he did in his struggle against Communism and that respect grew even bigger when I watched him how courageously he fought against his own illness. May God bless his soul.

I was in Leipzig this time last year when I found out. I had the honor to shake his hand back in 1997 during a mass at St. Peter's. A picture I took of him after he shook my hand was published in my High School newspaper.

He was truly a tireless man who kept on fighting for others until his death. Now he has all eternity to sleep. We miss you, Holy Father.

It's really been a year, hasn't it... well, rest in peace, Mr. Wojtyła.

His successor certainly isn't getting the press that he did. I've already forgotten his name. John Paul was truly a Pope for the masses and his presence is surely missed in the Vatican.

Ironic - the pub I was in when he died, I was also in last night.

May he rest in peace. He was certainly much loved and respected.

I thought exactly the same thing. Perhaps because John Paul II kept going despite his age, and just gained a lot of press towards the end. It may happen with the current Pope too.

It was very sad how bad he got before his death, I'm sure he's better off where he is now! Rest in peace

Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine
Et lux perpetuam luceat eis.

Rest eternal grant them, O Lord
And let light perpetual shine upon them.

Ioannes Paulus II - Jan Pawel II - Johannes Paul II - Juan Pablo II - Giovanni Paulo II - Jean Paul II - John Paul II

I personally cannot believe it's been a year since he died. I admit that during his pontificate, I have disagreed on a lot of issues, most of all birth control and abortion. However, I still have a great deal of respect for him, for being a major contributor in the fight against the oppression of Communism. His first visit to Poland after becoming Pope was the start of a new era, in which people would rise up against the regimes that oppressed them and to show defiance against Moscow and the Soviet Union.

Although I am an Atheist, I miss him. I still even have the memory of having seen him for the first time 23 years ago. It's a bit incredible, but I remember being just 3 months old and having watched him on Television when he came to Costa Rica in March of 1983. It's a very special memory which I keep close to my heart.

Mögest Du in Frieden ruhen, Karol Jozef Wojtyla.

May you rest in Peace.
