Breaking News - Tim Hortons Bombed At YYZ.

Mon Apr 03, 2006 5:20 am

A bomb exploded at a Tim Hortons in Toronto's Yorkville area and another Tim Hortons store has been evacuated at Yonge and Lawrence farther uptown because of a suspicious package.

I live at Yonge & Lawrence. I was driving home just now and got detoured due to the road closure in front of the brand new Timmy's store.

What's going on here? A BOMBING in TORONTO?

Wow damn, that's not good! I was hoping it was an April Fool's joke a day too late. Just one thing G, your title made me think it happened at the airport ...

Hopefully this is a one-off incident.

Find out who placed the bomb, why they placed the bomb and what group (if any) they're affiliated to. Then give them the longest sentence we can. If this is linked to any of Canada's 'ideals' (not that we like to meddle much in international affairs) then we need to come down HARD on this before it spreads. If it's a one off, isolated incident then we need to throw the book at the perp hard. Canada has to stop displaying itself as the international home of 'we'll let you off lightly'.

Not so happy cheers

Macc is from Austria. Surely even bad Austrian coffee is better than Tim Horton's mud water.

Maybe the bomber was mad at the inconsistent coffee? Why the heck does a double double taste different from one location to another?????

OK, I found some information. Unfortunately, one person died in that explosion that happened in a washroom. At first, I was afraid that it might be yet another terrorist attack, but now it doesn't look that way.

I had heard earlier that the man who died may have walked into the bathroom with explosives on him, although that story has since been taken down. Hopefully the person killed was not just an innocent bystander. Hopefully they catch the people behind this and toss them in jail for the rest of their God given lives.

Even I was laughing when I saw the title, but was not amused to find that it was not an April fool joke.

So sad to see these kind of things that we read on papers/TV to happen so close by.
I hope and pray this will be the last of any such incident here.

Wasn't a bombing.

They're now saying it was a flash-point explosion, which could be anything.

"Toronto's police chief, Bill Blair, declined to discuss the possibility of a bomb.

He described the blast as "a very hot and intense fire in an enclosed area within the washroom."

The police bomb squad worked at the scene for much of the afternoon. "

OKay -- does anyone else find it even remotely humorous that there was a intense fire and hot blast" in what is OBVIOUSLY the stall in the bathroom? I can't help but laugh. haha

Appears to be either suicide or arson, according to the paper. IF that is so, then I'm going to have a laugh at this guys expense for even REMOTELY putting other people in harm

Police were there within seconds. Literally. They were standing in line ordering doughnuts and coffee.

Chief Bill Blair is in a conundrum. He doesn't know if he should be rewarding the officers for quick response, or reprimanding them for eating on the job.....

I see cops at Tim Hortons Drive thru all the time. I believe they would have been in trouble if they went to the neighbouring Starbucks instead

In all fairness, Cops are also entitled to have coffee breaks.

FOURbucks is now laughing since "the Dollars, doughnuts and coffee are going through the roof at the Tim's next door"... they are quoted as saying.

Apparently everything has been skyrocketing at Tim's since the shares went on sale.

It honestly gets me worried though when I see a cop weighing 300lbs at the coffee shop mauing down on a donut. If he was the only person there to chase a criminal, the criminal would likely get away. I think that there should be some standard.

But I agree, most of us need our Tim's in the morning, or quite frankly, a few times a day!

Ooh, good point. Perhaps this was an upset stockholder who was not pleased with his investment in coffee and donuts. Then again, maybe this stockholder was upset that they messed up his order and his donut had some laxatives in it instead.

There does not appear to be a FACTUAL update as to the blast in the Yorkville area. (For those of you who don't know Toronto, Yorkville is a rather exclusive part of Toronto where a lot of movie stars hang out).
