Post Whatever Random Things You Can Think Of.

Sat Apr 08, 2006 12:58 am

Any interesting things that you don't feel like starting a thread about, or any completely random thoughts that have been coming into your head lately, or anything at all.. feel free to babble about here... (Shows you how bored I am)

I saw this on the 10 Spot at www.cnnsi.com :
1. There has been some controversy in New York recently about Mets newcomer Billy Wagner using the same intro song as Mariano Rivera, the longtime Yankees closer, despite the fact that Wagner actually used it first while in Houston. To prevent other teams from following suit and copying all things Yankee, George Steinbrenner has applied for a copyright on blowing a three-games-to-none lead in a seven-game series
-- Kevin, St. James, N.Y.

2. Anna Benson has apparently reconciled with husband Kris a week after filing for divorce. She reportedly did a lot of soul-searching in the interim, including the possibility of making her next husband an NFL player. It seems she's really intrigued by the 53-man roster.
-- John, Lewisburg, W.Va.

3. The Mavericks are auditioning Shawn Kemp for a spot on their playoff roster. He's asking for the week of June 18 off so he can properly celebrate Father's Day.
-- Robert, West Hartford, Conn.

4. Philadelphia Eagles players Donovan McNabb and Jeremiah Trotter were found guilty of parking in handicapped spaces. Their defense team still contends that anyone playing with T.O. has a legitimate claim of partial handicap due to hearing loss.
-- Chad, Sugarland, Texas

5. Freshman quarterback Ike Whitaker is back on the Virginia Tech football team, coach Frank Beamer said Monday. Whitaker was charged with public intoxication, underage possession of alcohol and destruction of property in an incident on campus. Whitaker hopes to break the all-time Va. Tech arrest record set last year by Marcus Vick.
-- Brian, Denver

6. A judge tossed out three misdemeanors against Daunte Culpepper stemming from last fall's Vikings "love boat" scandal. The judge said he found no probable cause. No word yet on when charges will be brought against Culpepper for destroying countless fantasy football teams' chances for victory last season.
-- Kasia, Chicago

7. LSU basketball coach John Brady plans to ask the school for a significant raise after this season. LSU officials plan to counter by reminding him that it's still been 20 years since the Tigers have shown up for a Final Four game.
-- Jeff, Columbia, Mo.

8. Alfonso Soriano was benched by a furious Frank Robinson Wednesday after the Nationals left fielder failed to run out a pop-up. Said Soriano about the benching, "If I would have known how easy it was to get Frank to pull me out of the outfield, I wouldn't have made such a fuss in spring training."
-- Frank, Finksburg, Md.

9. The Cubs have announced that Mark Prior is on an "accelerated rehabilitation" schedule. The plan is to have him rehabbed, re-injured and back on the disabled list by July.
-- Tim, Brewster, N.Y.

10 . NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon was fined $10,000 for his "shove" of Matt Kenseth two weeks ago at Bristol -- $5,000 for the physical contact and $5,000 for not being man enough to remove his helmet first. -- Melanie, Abilene, Texas

RE: Post Whatever Random Things You Can Think Of.

Well since I have not been on this thing in a long, long time, figured it was time to let everybody know what I've been up to. I ran for Congress for 3-3.5 months, and recently abandoned this bid due to a conflict with the 20th Amendment. I still work a 40 hour week at the airport, which is fine because they pay me to look at airplanes. I've been to Austin, Palestine, Rusk, Jacksonville, Kaufman, and Gun Barrel City, Texas. Doña Emilia's in Austin has some pretty damn good food! Ride my bike 40-60 miles/week, so my leg muscles are disproportionately large when compared to my arm muscles. A recent university study linked standing under a showerhead for 10 minutes or more per day can cause brain damage, but my bosses consider that less of a risk than the potential increase in body odor that would occur if a shower ban were enacted against employees. Speaking of employees, as one I answered the phone the other day and helped book a car reservation for a client for January of next year. That person has their life way too regimented. I do not know for sure what I am doing after I get off work, much less in January of 2007. I think that John and I should team up to be contestants on The Amazing Race. Or if that doesn't work out, some random, athletic hot chick who likes historians/aviation buffs and can discuss the causes of World War I with me. I think I just narrowed the possible teammates down to 3 in the world, including John. Speaking of John, I like golf. I think I should go golfing again soon, possibly with John. That would be fun! So is Colorado, which happens to be where I am going starting this June! And, my boss is being really nice and is letting me come in tomorrow and take Friday off completely! We hired a new person who will get the middle of the week off. Supposedly she's a history buff who majored in aviation management. Don't know if she's hot and athletic or not yet, so I'll put off asking her to be a teammate on The Amazing Race. Which is definitely not the Aryan race. Those white supremacists are just scumbags hellbent on destroying America. So is Bush, but that doesn't necessarily make him a white supremacist. A Congresswoman from Illinois was in the White House in 2004 before the election and was wearing an "Obama for Congress" pin. Bush looked at it, his eyes went wide, and the Congresswoman said, "No, Mr. President, it says Obama." He replied, "Haven't heard of him." She said, "Oh, you will!"

And so we have come full circle. I started the rant talking about Congress, and I ended it talking about Congress.

Other than having to go to work sometime today, my mind is a blank.

My calculator has no 7.

There are 3 houses, a house made of concrete, one of wood and one of steel. All three made to code.

A fire is lit in all three haouse at the same time (central ground floor), which house will be the last to collapse?

It happened in the summer when I was either seven or eight years old, I think the latter but am not certain, a seemingly trivial event that actually may have been a Butterfly Effect scenario.
I was enrolled in a summer youth recreation program at the local YMCA. One day, we were taken to a small stadium across town to participate in running and other track events. It was an extremely hot, dry and dusty day, the sort of weather more appropriate to Arizona than to Connecticut. Within minutes after arriving at the stadium I was very thirsty and asked for water. As it turns out, the water at the stadium hadn't been turned on, and the counselors hadn't brought any water with us because they thought it would be available at the stadium. I tried to participate in a few races but was so desparately thirsty I soon refused to do anything. If I recall correctly, some of the other boys did likewise, and I very vaguely remember the counselors yelling at us for refusing to participate.
Why the Butterfly Effect? My unhappy experience sort of killed off any interest I had in sports activities, and I never participated in any organized sports like Little League or school teams. If I had enjoyed the day at the stadium, who knows, maybe my life would have taken a different turn as far as sports activities are concerned, and I would have been an athlete in school ... guess there's no way I'll ever know

And yes, it has occurred to me that the counselors must have been total room-temperature-IQ idiots for trying to continue with the activities when they realized there was no water and especially when the children began complaining

The winds are strong and blowing
Through the red and hazy morning
The cobwebs are now leaving my mind.
Through all the times and travels
I still have not unravelled
Why we have been so blind.
If we were waiting at the station
To go to the same destination
Would we even acknowledge the sight?
Or would we just let the train keep rolling
Our hearts not ever knowing
The mystery staying safe with the night.
Exposed in the awkward silence surrounding
Only sound heard is our hearts beating, pounding
Would you just stand there and stare?
Maybe you'd finally take a chance
Let me have the very first dance
And we'd fly up into the air.

Here I am, three days into my new job that has absolutely nothing to do with aviation. And I can't complain, since the pay is decent, the work hours are good, I enjoy free weekends, the coworkers are nice, and the job is challenging and will help me develop my management skills. Actually, I'm enjoying it and think I'll have a good time here... yet I long for the times when I was young and free and had fun working in airline reservations. And I think what if work conditions there hadn't changed for the worse, what if I had been able to keep a decent work schedule, what if the company had been more flexible when I needed it, what if I had been able to get that other airline job I applied to, what if I could turn back time... And I know it's no use daydreaming, I'd better concentrate on what's going on in my life right now. Especially now that I've decided to wait till I finish college in a couple of years, and then actively search for a job in aviation, hopefully in management. And meanwhile I come to a.net to satisfy my aviation addiction. Big grin

So here I am, with airplanes on my mind... when in comes an old buddy from the call center, whom I hadn't seen in more than a year. And it happens to be someone actually involved into aviation, since he is studying aviation business administration and preparing to get his PPL. We just spent a good half hour talking about the good ole' times... Talk about a trip in the time machine!

Sorry for the philosophical rant, but that's how I'm feeling today.  Smile

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

well , I guess you are not then - I am pretty sure that if you were the Supreme Being you would know it . Interesting theological question though , if god did decide one day to just not show up at work would it really be the end of the world ?

ScarletHarlot sent me a Boeing Hat, a Boeing Keyring, a 787 badge, a sticker and a little Inuit Figure, this has made my day and I am very happy, she also returned some books I lent her which makes the Scarlot doubly special as no bugger ever returns my books.

I am listening to "My Friends" by the Chili's as I type this.  Smile
