West Wing Fans - Spoiler Warning

Mon Apr 10, 2006 10:00 am

Now that Matthew Santos is the President-Elect, would you like to see NBC do a spin-off show?

No. The West Wing is a great show, I disagree with the politics on it, but a great show nonetheless. Spinoff's generally fail (except Frasier and some others) but it would ruin my memory of the show.

Ah, I expected nothing different from the show......they had nothing to lose since the thing was being cancelled. It started as a liberal fantasy and ended as such.

Yes it did. The show was living out a pipe dream that didn't happen a year and a half ago. I still love the show, but did anyone realistically think that Vinnick (Alda) would win? I sure didn't.

Most intelligent people knew that Santos was going to win back in September, did make decent tv anyways. Next week espiode looks interesting, basically a state furneal for an aide.

Actually, lots of people thought that Vinick would win and they would do another several seasons with a Republican president.

In fact, that was the concept going into last season, but it just didn't happen that way.

This is Hollywood; a season with a Republican President, boy would the ratings tank with that concept.

Leo was important enough. He was a former Secretary of Labor in the 1990's and former Chief of Staff to President Bartlett. In the United States, state funerals are limited to current and former Presidents and anyone designated by the President.

You needn't denegrate liberalism just for the sake of it. In fact, I thought that the way Vinick refused to consider a recount was a direct shot at the Dems, and a way of saying that the scumbags, errr...sorry, GOP were above that.

I've lost track of The West Wing for the past few months - what did they do with Leo? Since John Spencer passed away, I assumed they'd kill off his character - did they? If so, who became Santos' running mate?

That's a pity. Letting the Republican win would have been a nice way to have rounded the series off, especially given that for once the character wasn't an eyeball-rolling, frothing-at-the-mouth type.

I enjoyed the West Wing. Yes, it was somewhat sanctimonious and preachy, but it was also very well made and entertaining.

But I couldn't help but think ending it when they did was a good decision from a drama perspective, let alone a financial one. It seems to have run its course.

rotfl  Yeah, the reality of such is bad enough.  Big grin

My dad and I are both guessing that Santos will ask Vinick to be his VP, to form a unity team, since the election on that show was so split.

Now, wouldn't that be a pleasant reality in real politics?

I thought Santos would ask Josh Lynum to be the Vice President in an upcoming episode.

That's until I found that Brad Whitford (whose wife plays Lois on "Malcolm in the Middle"   ) signed to do a new show by Aaron Sorkin..."Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

God knows how many lunatic lefties believed that Kerry should have chosen McCain as his VP, given that he could probably have scraped in a few republican votes. After McCain's last couple of statements, I'm kinda glad that never happened.

Another name-calling Dane! What *is* it with Denmark?

Santos will ask Josh to be his Veep, and the series will end. I betcha.

It was an interesting idea, though--imagine if it really happened that way, right on election night...I suspect there'd be a lot more turmoil that was portayed on the show.

The episode this week was when Leo was officially killed off. At the end of the previous episode, Leo was found (off-camera) unconscious and was rushed to the hospital. Since this happened on Election Night, Santos will have to find someone else (whether this happens on the show or not, who knows, since these are the last episodes of the series).

I didn't get to watch WW as much as I would have like to-it used to be on weekights, when I was working, but I know enough-I think, to say that Josh isn't VP material. He's a politico-a behind-the-scenes guy, not a politician. I still think Vinick gets it..

In all likelihood, this is precisely what the writers would want to end this series with.

Hmm...I know Josh is a wonk, but if you remember, he was asked about the Veephood before...

There was a red herring in there last night too, when the campaign aide guy (I haven't watched much lately either---tall and kinda cute guy) said to Santos ""this has been the ride of my life" or something like that, and Santos said "I think we can top this." Of course that coulda been just "the presidency is fun" but...I dunno. Guess we'll have to tune in next week--and then, no more. I lose another hour of TV watching, oh boy!  Smile (WW was one of the few things I'd try to remember to turn the TV on for.)

I picked up on that, too. I thought it inferred a sequel or spin off.
