Middle Of The Night: Food?

Mon Apr 17, 2006 12:09 pm

Howdy,

As the title suggests, it's just gone 4AM here and I'm cooking sausages chips and beans, I've not eaten in over 12 hours but still, the kids think I'm crazy.. my partner thinks I'm crazy..

Anyone else have meals like this at stupid times of the night?

Nope. If I wake up and I'm hungry, I go get a drink of water.

Sometimes I just make myself a sandwhich when I get hungry at nights. And if there is something good around, then I'll have a really late dinner.

That is why a great deal of places are open 24 hours a night.

I conveniently live 3 blocks from a Jimmy John's which is open until 4am, 5 blocks from a 24 hour a day coffee shop/deli, 5 minutes to Steak 'n Shake, 4 minutes to White Castle, etc. etc.

I get hungry in the middle of the night sometimes. I just get some bread and throw it in the toaster, then dig around in the fridge for anything thatd fit in a sandwich and when the toaster has done its job I take out the toast and load er up.

Yup! I never get up in the middle of the night to eat; however, after a late night at a.net (and I mean late: 2 or 3 am) I usually have a sandwich before going to sleep.
Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

I don't know about sausage chips and beans in the middle of the night, that is too much effort, but a sandwich sometimes hits the spot. My wife would freak out if I filled the house with cooking smells at that time of night!
After Monday and Tuesday even the calendar says WTF...

A quick trundle though the kitchen usually produces something worth wolfing down. Failing that a quick trip down to China town for midnight dim sum is always good.

Nothing beats cold pizza at that time of night...that is if you have it laying around. Being the pizzaholic that I am, I always manage to have a couple of slices handy if I wake up at 3-4 in the morning with a craving for some food. If you get it w/ pepperocinis and Pepperoni though, chances are its going to leave some nasty acid reflux. Still worth the pain though.

I always keep a bag of potstickers in the freezer for late-night starvation. But now that I'm thinking about it, there's three slices of some really good birthday cake in there at the moment. Hmm...

Just got back from a run to the 7/11 at the corner, 6 hot dogs seems to do the trick, at 2 hot dogs for $2.22 it's a great deal. Load 'em up with hot sauce, onions and hot peppers and it's a feast!

Nice one, 9VSPO !

Hey seriously, Lew, eating sausage, chips and beans at 4am ain't gonna do you any good if it is a regular thing! I admit to being a fat knacker, but have never got up and cooked in the middle of the night!

Hint to all - if you come in pissed in the early hours, don't get the chip pan out!!! I nearly burned the house down with a pizza in the oven when I fell asleep drunk after a night out - it did NOT go down well with my parents.... A chip pan is 100 times worse.

Well, last night at 4am it was a chicken burger for me as I staggered home from a drunken night out with my boyfriend after he finished work.

May I assume that those 6 hot dogs are followed by a healthy dose of Pepto for dessert?

I did stay up till 4 am once last week... fun to do once, but not recommended if, like me, you must get up at 5:30 for work.  Silly

If im up, then i'll usually have a packet of super noodles at about 2-3am, followed by a chocolate chip cookie. I didn't this morning though because we didn't have any of both Sad.

If it requires a little of the pink stuff I'm not against it. I actually like the taste of the pink Pepto, call me crazy, but I think it tastes like the bubblegum you get as a kid. I like hot food, if I'm going for spicy food, I actually like to be in pain when I eat, it's character building.
