Why Firefox?

Tue Apr 18, 2006 11:18 am

After along time of hearing how great Firefox is, and seeing how popular it has become. (Through website statistics.) I thought that i'd download it and give it a go.

I'm not seeing anything so great about it!! Infact it's ALOT slower than IE, atleast for me.

So I'm asking all of you, What do you see as being soooo great in the web browser FireFox?

I like it mainly because you can click on a link to "open in new tab" instead of having a whole new browser window open up. This saves me room on the toolbar when I've got 10 websites open for a project, I can see them all at once in tabs under the URL bar in Firefox, IE dosen't offer that feature. And for me it's just as fast.
It may be too early to drink scotch... But it is NEVER too early to think about it...

It's all the thoughtful touches --- the little things.
For example if you want to change the address in your URL, you can double click on the word you want to change whereas IE highlights the whole line. The pop-up blocker works great too. The multiple tabs. I find Firefox more intuitive than IE.

It's not ONE thing that makes it better ... it's all the little ones.

Not sure if IE is doing this now or not, but the "favorites" bar is probably my favorite feature of Firefox... I have about 8 of my favorite links ready to go with just one click, all with a nice icon next to each.

The pop-up blocker is very useful

The google search bar is handy (I think IE can get this as well)

Overall, I haven't noticed any difference in speed compared to IE... The only problem is that certain things don't run right on Firefox and I have to dust off IE to run whatever I'm trying to run.

Simple. Firefox will not let anyone anywhere on the internet with their own website take over your computer.

IE will.

I use Firefox because...

- Less likely to be infected by spyware
- You can pimp out Firefox with extensions
- Ability to use tabs without third party software
- More customizable than Internet Explorer
- Haven't seen 1 popup ad since I switched!

I only use IE for Windows Update and that's pretty much it.

Must have extensions:

Adblock Plus
Adblock Filterset.G Updater (use this in conjunction with Adblock and your days of pop ups and banner ads are history)
Tab Mix Plus
Web Search Pro
IE View (for those pesky Microsoft-related websites)

The recent security release for Firefox fixed something like 20 remote execution flaws. Firefox will let people taake over your computer, its just noones doing it yet.

The new beta release of IE 7.05whatever allows you to open windows in this "tab" form. Its great.
