Arsenal Vs. Villarreal, Predictions?

Thu Apr 20, 2006 3:53 am

I haven't been following soccer closely for a while so I am not sure, Arsenel's defence has been working perfectly for a while. The first game just started, so it would be nice to hear what you have to say.
Why Pires is replacing someone, has he not been in form for the last couple of years? Or am I forgetting and he usually was a subsitute to fire things up towards the end.

The Sqirral which ran accross the pitch, would probably play better football than Arsenal and who are the other team.

The squirrel was the celebrity of the day, stopped the game and kept the photographers busy for quite a while.

Arsenal 1-0 Villareal, things are going well for us so far, another goal would be very nice but i'll settle for 1-0.
In Arsene we trust!!

What are Villarreal thinking? To get the equalizer in the second leg?I thought we'd see a bit more attack from them but they just seem to have settled in their own half with Arsenal attacking.

Damn it there was just a handball in the penalty box by Villareal....and Alvarez took down Henry rather....LIBERALLY.

1-0 Final score, a disappointing resistance from a team which made it to the semifinals. From the way they played the second half it looks like their goal was to keep it 1-0, lets see what magic they have for the second leg. I am not very hopeful for them though.

1-0 is not that bad, but again Arsenal's defense was excellent. I dont think there was ONE accurate shot on goal by Villareal in the second period.

Bad ref though, what a ridiculous call at the end of the game.

I agree.

I have to say though, the Arsenal goal was a very nicely set up one, didn't realise how beautifully it was setup by Henry until I saw the replay.

BTW that was a ridiculously well executed header from V. Persie's free kick...that was close to being goal #2.

The squirrel was funny as hell though.

Definitely. Thierry was majestic as per usual, and Dennis was unfortunate not to make contact and score. 2-0 would've been great to carry over into the second leg as we did in the quarter-finals; it was enough to crush Juventus and they were somewhat more formidable opponents than Villarreal. Having said that however, El Submarino Amarillo's home record is impressive and Arsenal will have to play even better than they did tonight to defend and extend the 1-0 lead.

We should have got a second really. 1-0 is still a good result. If we can get 1 goal away i can't see them putting 3 past us, if any.

We haven't conceded in 829 minutes now.
