A380/Green Man Meet 18th May

Mon May 01, 2006 7:46 pm

Myself and EZYAirbus will be attending LHR for a look at the A380 (if it turns up) and sampling the wonderful beers and atmosphere of the shrine that is known as the Green Man.

I should be in the vicinity of LHR from around 9am, so if anybody is up for a day out feel free to join us.

I plan to get to LHR early that day (in the morning), so I can find out what runway will be in use (I mean, what end of the south runway, 09R or 27L) for the A380 landing. I plan to stake out my spot--either at Myrtle Avenue if it lands on 27L, or somewhere near the end of 09R, if the 09s are in use. I dearly hope the 27s are in use, because I don't want to walk all the way to 09R if I don't have to! Besides, where's there a good spot for 09R arrivals? I don't really know of any.

I think you mean 09L. When the 09's are in use, Aircraft only use 09R for landing early in the morning before the rush of departures begin. - Thereafter it is 99.9% 09L for arrivals.

I shall definately be there on the 18th, not you understand to see the A380, but to sample once again the fine liquor served up in the man of green!!

I've got exams on that day. I've already screamed @ my teacher
"Hold the exams until next week!!! The A380 is visiting Britain for the first time then and I want to go". Unfortunatly, they won't hold them just for me, which I think is totally unfair**.

May do. I have an exam for 2 hours in the morning but could make it from Egham for the afternoon. Not sure if I can stay too long though, got work the next morning at the grueling hour of 7am (ironically at LHR)!

I've got a 06:00 flight the next morning so was going to come down from Birmingham the day before anyway. If there is a hotel going really cheap I'll take that, and if not I'll kip in LHR, won't be the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. Now, just fingers crossed that AZ don't do something stupid like go on strike again!

Didn't know where else to put this, but the A380 is also doing fly-pasts over Filton and Broughton on the 18th before it heads to LHR.

Chris, Smithair is correct. It has been stated by the BAA that the A380 will use the southern runway 27L/09R regardless of what other runway is in use for arrivals as the strengthening work on the Northern Runway 27R/09L and taxiways is not complete to allow the A380 to use it at the moment.

You could take the 81 bus to Longford Bridge and walk from there, or take the bus from Hatton Cross to the cargo village and walk from there. The old Esso garage would be ok for a side on shot I guess, or on the perimeter road by T5, there is a section of fence that is missing the metal strips at eye level meaning you can see right down the whole runway.

I'll be watching from inside the fence I'm afraid with my crappy camera or might even take the camcorder in !!!.  Wink

I would love to come back to LHR, had a good time in March with EZYAirbus, but I'm flying to ALC the day before for a week! Also my birthday on the 18th, so would of been a good day to see the A380. But I'll just have to enjoy the Spanish Sun instead  Smile

Keep an eye out of the window Mark on your flight, when I flew up from BCN to LGW this week we flew over the TLS Airbus site, unfortunately the haze and dirty window screwed up the pics, but I saw a lot of what was on the ground there.

I've decided that I won't be attending due to three reasons:

1 - I am lazy and can't be arsed to go to LHR (as I'll be there the next day due to work).
2 - I have an exam until 11.30am, and therefore won't get to LHR until 1pm. I should be able to see the A380 from my halls (I am on a hill).
3 - Saw the A380 a while ago anyways.

Have a look at this.

http://www.heathrowtv.com/

TGM will be very busy with the www.concordesst.com forum members there to watch the Hippo as we call it come in and then most will depart for Brooklands.

But they will return after a busy afternoon at the Museum a Flypast is going to take place at 1500 local with a DC-3 and the Vickers Vimmy replica.

I may be with my friends in TGM in the evening!

I don't think I shall be attending at LHR I'm afraid, as I'm flying out at 6am the next morning before spending a whole day on my feet around Milan. Does anyone know what time its due to overfly Filton though? Its only just over an hour on the train down there from Birmingham, so I might be tempted by that.

Cheers, enjoy the meet everyone else!

You can but only occassionally. The residents seem ok as long as you don't block their driveways.
I intend to park in the Hatton Cross car park (£7.00 for the day I think) and then walk to Myrtle Avenue. Around a 5 min walk
