Wed May 03, 2006 10:12 pm

So it appears I needed to change the four tires on my new acquisition (see the Twingo thread).

Four 165/65R13 tyres (read:skateboard wheels), mounted and balanced = 192 Euro !!!!!!

Rhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !

What brand are you buying and how much from that amount is cost of work?

It's probably China and India's fault for using all the rubber along with all the oil.  biggrin

I pay $130 per tire for my Honda Accord. For some reason the tire places in and around ATL have some high and mighty approach to tires and won't put a lower speed rated tire on my car than the manufacturer suggests. Never mind the fact my Accord won't do 160mph they still want to put those type of tires on it.

I convinced my wife to replace my original equipment 245/75-16's with Michelins. We paid quite a bit more, but they've lasted a loooooong time!

Just buy the tyres from a trade outlet and fit them yourself!

Some cheap Korean brand (Hankook) and the labor costs are not detailed on the invoice.

I've one of them on my garden wheelbarrow. The handling is superb, especially over rough terrain  Smile

If I am going to replace all four tyres on my car it will cost at least 410 Euro for 195/65/R15H.

or

All four tyres for my banger (the one with the bullet holes on the back if you remember the picture in another post) which is 380 Euro for 175/65/R14H.

I costs me at least twice as much to get tyres for my car.

Rhaa!

I need tires for mine. 205/60R16. About $370 for a set and free rotation and flat repair. Think I'll stick it out until the end of the summer though, since I'll be putting on probably 7-8000 miles this summer.

Buying tires in the USA is kinda of joke as to pricing. You see sale prices of "4 for $99". That is for the cheapest (maybe 30K miles wear), smallest tires (like 155 R 13 and similar to those used on some of the cheapest small cars, like your Tingo). Then you have to add on top of that base price:
Installation and Balancing $10/tire ($40)
Disposial fee for old tires at $3-6 each ($12-24)
Sales Tax 0% to 8 1/2%, so if 6%, then $10
Total: like about $169.
For my Mercury Cougar, it cost me $300 for 2 tires on 2 occasions on my car(or $600 for 4 total, for all-season, correct speed rated tires, and tires are only used on a few cars, mostly on my model).

Another joke is if you trade your car in, in some states you get nailed with a "tire disposal fee." I forgot how much it was here in FL, but I remember noting how ridiculous it was considering the fact that they were still using them on the car and weren't "disposing" them at all

Wow, that does sound like alot.

I just put new tires on my car. I have a BMW 323i Sportwagon. The tires are directional, and staggered. 225/45/17 front, and 245/40/17 rear. I bought General Exxclaim UHP (Made by Continental, and the same exact tire as the Conti Extreme Sport Contact) Price at www.tirerack.com , $73.00US(front), $89.00US(rears). Had them mounted and computer balanced for $34/pair. delivered next day via UPS.

Can't beat those Tire Rack deals! bigthumbsup

Russ

BTW, the same tires, carrying the Continental branding: $143.00(front), $168.00(rear)
My glass is neither 1/2 empty nor 1/2 full, rather, the glass itself is twice as big as it should be.
