If It Weren't For Bad Luck....

Sun May 14, 2006 1:29 am

...I'd have no luck at all.

Having a nice, quiet vacation, painting doors and the garage. And on the last day of vacation, what happens yesterday? I'm walking upstairs, and my 1 year old Black Lab Charlie jumps up and catches a nail right into my left eye. "Down goes Falcon...down goes Falcon...down goes Falcon!"

Well, went to an opthamologist this morning, and after I finish here, making a few phone calls, and eating lunch, my eyes have to remain closed till my appointment with the same doctor Monday morning. So I don't know yet if I can go back to work monday, or if I have to miss more time.

Maybe I'll win the MegaMillions tonight, and none of this will matter.

Eyes closing now.....

Oh jeez, the first time I read this I thought while Falcon was doing home repairs the dog somehow flipped a metal nail in his eye. Now I get it!

Get better Falcon--at least now you won't have to read ... naw, I won't say it.  Wink

Ditto  crazy  I had to read it three times . . .

I kept thinking, WTF is Falcon's dog doing nailing shit to the wall??? Perhaps I need another nap . . .

Well, old Buddy, get better - nothing serious I hope.

Trim the dogs nails . . . and then knee him/it/she in the chest every time it jumps like that - won't take but a few shots and it'll learn that's a no no . . . suppose that'd been your kid the dog jumped on? Not lecturing you - not like THAT would do any good  laughing  - just chatting . . .

That's what I thought too, or maybe the dog hit the trigger on an air nailer or something.

I'm glad it wasn't just me reading it that way. I think that it's an example of a subliminal suggestion as he had started by talking about doing some work on the house.

Good luck on the recovery. It's amazing how much the eye can recover from - I have a friend who's an ophthalmologist and used to work in a Level I trauma center as well. Some of the stories of what he had to put back together with eyes are absolutely shocking. The amazing thing is that even in the worst cases , i.e. shotgun blast to the eye, full recovery can happen in some cases.

Good luck on the Lotto but don't hold your breath.

Fools! Everyone knows that black labs can't learn how to use a nailgun until at least two years of age.  Wink

Hope you get better soon, Falcon.

I thought the same thing at first. If the dog actually managed to somehow kick a metal nail into his eye - now that would be some bad luck.

Get better Falcon, or I will hammer a metal mail into your right eye.

ANCFlyer is right though. The best way to train a dog not to jump up is to raise your knee and push against his chest and say firmly "No! Down!"..not hard, but just enough so that he gets down and, most importantly, gets the message. the whole family has to do it, though, or else the dog will think it's ok to jump up on everybody else.

Falcon, get better my man! And square that Lab away. The knee trick works wonders. My Lab is almost 7 now, and she learned. Every now and then she needsa refresher knee plant, but its money as far as a training technique. All the best bro.

I was originally very impressed that Falcon had a dog that could do housework. I was thinking that I needed to get me one of those! Hope you get better soon man!

I would suggest an umbrella for that black rain cloud following you, but it would be unwise to to open an umbrella indoors considering your luck. Hide under the bed, let your wife play the megamollions.
