Top 20 US Cities For Road Rage

Thu May 18, 2006 12:37 am

Miami at #1 is not a huge surprise given the craziness of that town. I suppose they conducted this poll during the off-season in Los Angeles was what dropped them down to #4. Wonderful ATL is down the list at 16 though I thought we would be higher.

I find Miami #1 hard to believe. They drive way too slow everywhere in Florida. Detroit #7? C'mon you've got to be kidding. Let that reporter drive on 94 or 75 for 10 minutes. It's kill or be killed.

Are you kidding me? Miami is bad, followed by Broward(Ft. Lauderdale) and you have to get out of Palm Beach county for things to get better.

Part of this has to do with people on their cel phones, the other part is they have the common sense that God gave a fence post.

I'm actually surprised that PHX is number 2.... Iwould have expected LAX #1 and NYC #2, then the entire South Fla. area...

guilty  Were number #2 (Phoenix). Take the mix of the tranisent population bringing their driving styles from all over to Phoenix, a state government that refuses to fund the Highway Patrol in the metro areas allowing all sorts of strange behavior on the freeways, winter visitors (enough about them), the hot weather, the illegals without licenses/insurance driving crap you have the situation of where its not if but when you will get involved in an accident.

I'm pleased to see Dallas-FW is a reasonable #11. Driving in the suburbs is always frustrating, but Dallas does a great job timing lights and keeping traffic flowing during peak and non-peak hours.

Try driving in Lexington KY where they don't know how to merge at on ramps, never use turn signals, space out at green lights all the time, have so many wrecks the cops have no time for anything else, and no one even has a clue as to what a stop sign means. Add to that some wise-guys sick joke of adding roundabouts to the mix and you have total chaos.

Not surprised @ all. Everytime I go back I am always amazed at how aggressively people drive. And it isn't like traffic congestion in metro Phoenix is all that bad. Compared to some of the other metros in the top the road/freeway system in Phoenix Metro is pretty damn good.

While I suspect all these factors play into this, I don't think these problems are exclusive to Phoenix. I'd say a poor lack of traffic enforcement (and I am not talking about red light and speed cameras, which are ever present in most valley cities) is a big factor. And in general speed limits on major surface streets and freeways might be a factor... in that they are generally higher than in many other parts of the country.

HAD to be a Yankee, being a transplanted Hoosier myself, those roundabouts never fail to make me snicker, especially all the ruts in the grass, smashed signs, skid marks, and beat up curbs.

Don't they know they've been punked?

Roundabouts actually make a lot of sense and work really well if people know how to navigate them. But when most people can't figure out a 4-way stop, well you know what happens next....

DC is #6. My question is: with traffic congestion is so bad you can't actually go anywhere in a car between the hours of 6am-10am and 3pm-8pm, does it count as road rage if the car is in park?

Well the slow drivers is one of the problems. Especially the older people and the illegals who are afriad to drive fast or they will get stoped by a cop and be deported.
I am not surprised by this at at all. Miami is always #1 in this survey. And if you think everyone drives to slow in Miami you never been on the highway or main roads at night, durring the day you cant drive fast to much traffic.

The problem with Miami is the mix of drivers from all the different countries, its not like all the drivers drive fast like in NY or Boston, but there are slow drivers, fast drivers, rude ones, drivers who dont know how to drive at all. And those latin American Drivers! Wow are they crazy especially the ones from Buenos Aires, you want to see some great and crazy driving go to Buenos Aires, you can see some of that down here though. Oh and cant forget about how people just love to cross the street any where at any time. I will have to slam my breaks atleast once every two days for a person crossing the street at the wrong time, or in the middle of the road at night.

I'm sure we are higher - just not in this survey! Heck, it claims "Minneapolis, Nashville, St. Louis, Seattle and Atlanta were rated as the cities with the most courteous drivers."

Impossible!
