End Of An Era - In My Life, That Is

Thu May 18, 2006 8:27 am

Well folks, I pulled the trigger.

A week ago I turned in my resignation at my job and paid my first tuition installment for the nursing program at the local community college. I'm making the transition to the community college's facilities for my studying and work, which means at this moment I'm typing from a computer in its Technology center.

I've been at my job for almost ten years. I've been "nursing" books the entire time. I have one large book remaining that needs a significant amount of repair in the next week (before I walk out for the last time.) It seems appropriate that this book will require every skill I know - from resewing and binding together the text block to recasing it (putting the text back into the original cover.) There's no question that my final work will truly be my final opus!

It also means I'll probably be on hiatus from A.net for a while. I can't guarantee that I won't be around - everyone knows how hard it is to quit this thing once you've gotten into it - but I will definitely have to cut down on my surfing in general. There are procedures to learn, techniques to practice, theories to explore and memorize... mostly new or new dimensions on previous studies.

Thanks to everyone who's given a kind word or who's tried to understand my, er... unique way of looking at things. Best wishes to everyone here. God bless you all.

Good for you, I keep hearing how there is supposed to be a big shortage of qualified nurses in the coming years. Sounds like you are making a wise choice.

Liz - we ain't often seen eye-to-eye, but good choice, and good luck. From what you've posted, I'd gladly trust my health to you in a hospital.

Hopefully you're going after an RN designation, so many more doors can be open for you in your career. Remember, once you got a couple of years under your belt, you'll now more than doctors in regards to the important stuff like how to treat people. Now back to your books.
