The LHR A380 Meet Aftermath Thread!

Fri May 19, 2006 3:14 am

Well, seeing as the old one A380/Green Man Meet 18th May (by Steve7E7 May 1 2006 in Non Aviation) was getting pretty long, heres a new thread

Where do I start, except for the quote of "Whoosh!!!!" as the A380 came in

What a sight

I'll post my pics in a few mins

Did anyone see me with my turquoise AEROFLOT bag? I was in the southeast corner of Myrtle Avenue field with some older guys I know as regulars like me.

With all those people at Myrtle Avenue, I could not pick out anyone I recognized as any A.netter I have met before.

But still, I got a great photo of the A380!

I ended up watching from stand 314 next to KaddyUK (whom i didn't actually notice until we were going back to do some work). I had a fantastic view straight down the runway and approach until about 5 mins before some **nt came anc parked a pushback tug infront of me. Not only that, they had the cab raised up too  Angry - the **nts could have parked behind me and still seen over the top of the tiny car I was in !!.

Got some great footage on the camcorder and a couple of A.net quality shots of the taxiway's concrete due to the lack of viewfinder on my shitty still camera !!!.

Spent an hour and a half with her this arvo tho watching the trials (and tribulations of 6 blokes trying to heave the forward cargo door shut - not a hope in hell's chance !!)

Got more pics and footage from that too.

The Upper Deck Catering truck is some piece of kit !!.

Friends, and fellow a.netters,

Firstly I feel the need to apologise for any anti-socialness that may have been radiated from my person. I was mentally knackered after my exam this morning. It was a good time, and weird seeing the A380 at LHR.

I told some of you that today was my last day of exams, and tonight I am celebrating this wonderful event, well....I am half way there already! Just got back from SU bar and heading to a club in Windsor in 20 mins.

I thank you all for a lovely/short (on my bit) gathering.

Whilst those at LHR did not have the privilege of my company, I am proud to have taken part in this hugely successful meet. I viewed the A380 as she flew over Central London. Most impressive, a great day for aviation. Congratulations to all involved.

T'was indeed a great day and it was good to see the old faces again, together with a few new ones!
The A380 was awesome and suprisingly quiet too, to think that we'll be seeing the beast at LHR on a daily basis before long is superb.

Thanks to everybody who turned up yesterday and thanks to TGM for their hospitality and an ample supply of Strongbow  Smile

Unfortunately I overdid it a tad and ended up overshooting my train stop by 4 stations......whoops!

Great day, great to meet everyone who was there. Got beat at pool by a lass!  blush

Yes but it had a technical problem which is why they were trying to shove it closed by hand.

Not looked at the Video yet - not had time, and I'll try and look at it on Monday when I'm next off and put it up on YouTube or something.

Went into work 30mins early today and it was tech, so was an hour late leaving. By time it was taxiing out, my first flight was taxiing in, so could only watch t/o from a distance.  irked  It rotated very early though - was looking at the spot where most heavies rotate, but it was already at about 80+ft at that point.

At last I now have my video online. Here it is :-

There is also footage of an LH A321 going round from about 50ft, and what I believe is the first visit of a bare metal AC 762 to LHR.

Hope you enjoy it.
