Eurosong 2006

Fri May 19, 2006 6:02 am

OK, the first evening of Eurosong 2006 is almost over. As usual, it wasn't spectacular, but it was a fun. Unfortunately, my country is not participating this year, but I watched it anyway. What can I say, Eurosong was always taken seriously here.

So, here are my favorites before the final results of the evening:
Ireland
Bosnia and Herzegovina
Monaco (that girl looks very good)
Iceland (obviously not many liked her so I'd gladly comfort her)
Slovenia

On list of hated:
Finland - they scare me

What did you like or dislike?

Hmm, the Eurovision Song Contest from last year was an embarrassment itself for Germany, thanks first to Gracia's CD sales controversy and because she only got 4 points and got kicked out of the contest.

I was never into this Song Contest thing, and after Gracia last year, much less.

OK, it is final now and I agree with results except in the case of Finland. Also, I'm so sorry that Monaco didn't make it. Unfortunately, one treat less for my eyes on Saturday.

FINLAND! SUOMI! LORDI!

For what it's worth, I quite enjoy the Eurovision - with proper commentary, of course. I was listening to two popular Estonian comedians comment the event and that made it more or less digestible.

I was expecting some rather fancy tricks and we did indeed have someone. For example, the zombie emerging from the piano while the Russian chap was singing. What was that all about? And the Greeks should have built the stage a little larger, because the clothes of the Polish and Swedish (if I recall correctly) artists didn't quite fit to it.

Anyway, it is still my belief that the songs are an unneccessary component of the Eurovision contest. We should just gather once in a year and vote for each other's countries. You know, just like it goes - the Balkan countries for each other, the same with the Nordics, Baltics and the CIS republics, plus UK and Ireland voting for each other. And then we should just give the remaining points to Malta, and live on in perfect harmony.

Cheers,

Why not? Last year, I've heard that Lebanon wanted to participate in the competition and it would be a great addition.

The only thing I hate in the last few years is that everybody wants to sing in English despite the fact they speak no English at all. It looks so pathetic and the best example was Belarus yesterday. I could only understand two simple words and I'm sure the poor girl had no idea what she was doing.

I never really understood the whole controversy over that last year. Something about charts or sales of the CD? Mind you, I thought that Gracia´s song was pretty good. I just got back from the Knipe and they were playing it over and over .....  vomit

And it's my favourite too (normal as it's my country).

But this year we have fallen just too low...a HUGE leap backwards if compared to the songs/artists that have represented us in the last few years ( aunque la tal Rosa tampoco tiene desperdicio...es de lo más garrulo que ha nacido en España).

Las Ketchup are just soooooo bad singers (yeah they look good, especially the thin one with the blue eyes, but they are here to sing)...and the song is horrible, poor. Many people here was like "WTF?!?!?!" when the song was presented a few months ago.

Argh, they couldn't stop playing that horrible "Asereje" song for a very long time here in Costa Rica. Thankfully, the creators of "Die Gerd-Show", a satire show featuring a puppet of then chancellor Schröder, made a much better version of the song named "Der Steuernsong (The Tax Song)", which made the music of the song much more bearable.  Silly

I'm sure even Mocedades made much better songs during their heyday than Las Ketchup does today.  Wink This coming from someone who got annoyed from listening to Mocedades cassettes my mother used to play on the car radio when travelling over Europe.

Both Skidmarks and you are right. There is something wrong with that festival, but it also applies to San Remo as well. The good side is that they do no harm. It was meant for fun, so let's make some fun of it and forget about it tomorrow. One thing is certain, whatever happens tonight the next Eurosong won't be held in Belgrade.

Also, I have met some true and devoted fans of Eurosong. Believe me, some of them memorized how many point Austria won in 1986, for example.  crazy

Wow...so far my vote goes to Ireland. Both the song and the performance have been GREAT!!
