The theme for Cub Scout Day Camps in our Council this year is "Scouting around the World." I'm not personally involved in organizing camp for our district but several of my Den leaders are and have asked me to try to find some information for them.
What we need are pictures and descriptions (first hand are best, I know we have to have non-US scouters here) of Scouting in other countries. Information from any program is welcome but as the target audience are Cubs, Cub Scout or local equivalent material is most desirable.
The idea is to show the boys a bit of the culture from a number of different countries along with a view of how Scouting is different to adapt to different conditions in different countries while still remaining true to its original values and roots.
Some of the specific countries that they are most interested in are as follows:
1. England as it is the home of Scouting.
2. South Africa as the same argument can be made as Lord Baden Powell developed many of the programs that evolved into Scouting while serving there. We also have a number of Cubs whose family comes from there.
3. Ecuador or other Andean countries - I think they chose this because they plan on borrowing a lot of things in my house that come from there to illustrate the culture aspect of things.
4. All others are more than welcome. Even if we get more material than our District can use, we plan to share with other districts within the Council so there will be no waste!
Thanks in advance for your help.
p.s. If you post questions, I won't be back online until tonight.
