Chicken Or The Egg?

Sun May 28, 2006 4:36 am

While scientists have finally answered that age old question! We'll have to come up with something else to debate about.
" Put simply, the reason is down to the fact that genetic material does not change during an animal's life.

Therefore the first bird that evolved into what we would call a chicken, probably in prehistoric times, must have first existed as an embryo inside an egg."

Yep, I've been saying it for ages, the egg was a mutation/evolution of its parent, so was different, and over time has evolved into a the chicken as we know it.

"that proves there were chicken eggs before chickens."

That's kinda confusing.
I've been saying it for along time. The chicken just evolved

I take no chances: I make something called "Which Came First ?" salad, containing lettuce, tomato, small pieces of cooked chicken breast, and sliced hard-boiled egg.

How's that for a total, time-wasting non-sequitur ?

It does not say anything specific, but it goes along with "god created man in his image". Something about one of the 7 days, when god created all the animals or something er rahter.

The chicken came first.

To create a chicken you need the egg from the female and the fertilization from the male.

The chicken came first.

And I was thoroughly amused at the contents of the article:

"Now a team made up of a geneticist, philosopher and chicken farmer claim to have found an answer." - Does this represent a viable scientific team?

"Mr Papineau, an expert in the philosophy of science, agreed that the first chicken came from an egg and that proves there were chicken eggs before chickens." - Sure - just because he agrees proves it - hahahaha

"Bourns, chairman of trade body Great British Chicken, said he was also firmly in the pro-egg camp. He said: "Eggs were around long before the first chicken arrived. Of course, they may not have been chicken eggs as we see them today, but they were eggs."" - This is too cute.

And finally - I love the last paragraph!

"The debate, which may come as a relief to those with argumentative relatives, was organized by Disney to promote the release of the film "Chicken Little" on DVD."

This was a great thread - thanks for a good laugh - I really enjoyed it.

Have a great day all!

Cheers!

A chicken and an egg are laying in bed. The chicken is sitting pack contentedly, smiling, and smoking a cigarette. The egg looks disconsolate as she sits on the edge of the bed. "Well," she said, " I guess that question is answered..."

Everyone is Assuming the context of the question to be regarding where on the evolutionary time table they come.

However...

What if you were reading a menu and the question arose? Which appeared first on the menu? The Chicken Or The Egg?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_chicken_or_the_egg

I suggest reading that page AND the Catch 22 page...

Hey Kaddy  Smile
I'd say the egg is usualy before the chicken dishes on the menu (in America atleast).
