PRG Meet

Wed May 31, 2006 6:50 am

Hi there,
I chatted with some people the other day and then the idea just came by - let's make an a.net meet in PRG. As we have already planned a czech-spotters summer meet here in PRG, there's an easy way how to make the meet international.
We're inviting all spotters and aviation fans, who want to meet new people, watch some interesting traffic (russian planes included), drink cheap and tasty beer and generally have some fun in central Europe.
The dates have been set for 29-30th of July 2006, hopefully the weather will be warm so that good spotting/photographing conditions are provided. The programme for the meeting could be as following:

meeting at the fence, spotting, evening SU tupolev included
evening and night socializing in the city

I can arrange some cheap hostel or dorm accomodation if demanded. Any ideas or recomendations are welcome. Looking fwd for your reactions, if you're interested, please contactme here or via email.

Best regards
J.

Heck, if I am in Dresden that weekend I would certainly like to attend - only 146 Km away, does not get any better than that.

So for now count me in.

Thanks for the idea.

Well, I think I'll just set the date for the last weekend of August, which is 26-27.

BUT! All are welcome individually, since I'll (and my aviation friends) work at the apt during the summer. So if you happen to get in PRG and are interested in meeting someone from the country you're visiting who can give you good hints, don't hesitate to contact me, I like meeting aviation freaks  Smile

PRG meet seems like a great idea, but I have few problems.

First is visa. How can I get one just to go for spotting?
Second is travelling options.
Third, is there a cheap accomodation in Prague?

Hi Aleksandar!

Sorry I haven't been in touch. I will email you soon.

As for the Visa, check out the requirements here: http://www.learn4good.com/travel/czech_republic_visa.htm#req

Travelling options - you can always come to Dresden if it is easier for you and we can ride together to Prague. It is only 146 Km away. Catch is, you need also a Schengen Visa for Germany. If you want to stay in Prague, there are hundreds of hotels in every price range - I can recommend you a few if you want.

I will be looking forward to meeting you in Prague!

I'm just interested in some prices there for the moment.

Quoting L410Turbolet (Reply 25):

I visited it. The best chances would be to use some travel agency and go with them.

OK guys, chances for me to join you in PRG are small  Sad , but there are some chances. As I've said before, the main issue is visa and the best thing would be to fly directly to PRG but JAT's highly publicized special fares are not that special after all with RT at 229 Euros (I need some LCC and I need it now  hissyfit  ). Going by train or bus is cheaper but then I'll need few more visas (for Hungary or Slovenia and most definitely for Slovakia).

Right now, I'm trying to contact CSA and see what they offer and there is a tourist agency organizing interesting tour in PRG of six days, but I don't know their dates yet.

So, chances are slim but I'll do my best.

It is hard for me to believe that - after all, you are an european citizen too... and Serbia is within the borders of the EU! Well, if I can help you in anyways... Maybe you can get a cheaper flight from Croatia - so many charter flights also from Prague.

Let's hope you can make it. I will keep my  crossfingers

Well, it is hard for me to. Interestingly, visas are getting harder and harder to get (at least to the country outside the Schenghen zone). For example, Hungary introduced visas in 2004, but it was a piece of cake to get a one year visa, but, recently, they have introduced new rules, without telling it publicly, and it is very difficult to get one and it lasts just for the number of days you plan to spend there. We'll see what will happen with Czech Republic and their visa. I would need all the help from Czech A.netters. So, the situation is that I am European geographically, but not politically.

Quoting Flyingbabydoc (Reply 30):
Let's hope you can make it.

Right now, I have found a good deal to spend six days in PRG, and if I make it, I'll be there from July 27th until August1st. Again, I'm not certain about it, but that's the idea.

Oh come on! One of the most beautiful cities in Europe! You can have a stag party at home, but there is so much more to see and do in Prague! For those Jazz aficcionados out there, it has wonderful jazz venues. Not to mention the museums, art galleries, restaurants (like the Reykjavyk) and much, much more.

I go to Prague at least 10-12 times a year with my wife, and there is always something new to see and do. The only problem are the drunken tourists and the stag parties...

Hmm, I've never been to Prague, but there are some things I'd like to see and experience:
a place where Franz Kafka lived
to meet some alchemists who can teach me a trick or two  wink
all the tourist attractions.

That's why, I'd love to use the group tour from Belgrade. It would give me few more days and lots of time to discover the city in my own way simply by wandering around. The only remaining problem is that I don't know their dates for August.
