More Crapchester Soccer: Rhinos Vs. Sheffield Wed.

Mon Jun 05, 2006 2:11 am

Sorry to go on about this shit, but my team has a friendly coming up against Sheffield Wednesday (that's the full team name) from England. I was hoping some Brits could chime in. Is Sheffield Wednesday any good despite the asinine name?

Yes they are. They excel at the usage of blood bombs, urine bombs, small arms and road-side flares. The Rhinos players should play with caution.

No, you're confusing them with an American baskeball team.

They're not especially good, LHMark. They have a proud history, but in recent years they've fallen on hard times and dropped down the divisions. Incidentally, the name comes from their early days when (if memory serves) they were a works team who could only play on Wednesday afternoons.

They are ok, but not great as a second division (championship) side. It will be interesting to see what the difference between a second division American team is and a second division English team is. I'm just glad the MLS all stars don't have to thrash Fulham this year and actually play a good team for the all star game.

You won't be able to tell. It's unlikely that Wednesday will put out their first team, nor will they take it particularly seriously. Truth be told, it'll be a bigger deal for the American side than the English one.

Wow!  Wow!  Wow! hmm That means they'll ber putting a team out of under-12 year olds, the tea ladies, the club secretary and a couple of elderly groundsmen then  Wink

Mind you I've heard Betty the tea lady has a mean left foot. Perhaps she could solve some of England's problems on the wing Big grin

But they do have one of the best managers in English football - and while they're about it could we have him back at Plymouth please  pray

There was one incident, and the player only loaded up a couple fists. Nothing with a trigger, gun powered, or anything that emitted a flame.

I'll just resurrect this one again then...  Wink

Splendid. Then we're fairly even, because I read all my US sports violence from US news sources...  Wink

All, your handful of incidents a year? Compared that to a handful of incidents per Soccer Game.  scratchchin

Really? I must have missed that. Still, I suppose in America it's hard to notice given that spend your whole lives shooting at each other really...

Funny, I've never been shot at (as a civilian) or shot at someone. There goes that. Also, I doubt there is no gun violence in England.

Extremely odd. 'Cos I've never seen any violence at a football match. Strange how reality is different to the media portrayal, isn't it?  Wink
