Ghostly And Paranormal Experiences And Happenings

Tue Jun 06, 2006 11:23 pm

Hey all,

I seem to be getting into ghost stories latley, i want to hear your personal experiences, everything from orbs to ghosts.

My first experience was at my Auntys 113 year old house, i was woken many time by someone tucking me in and tidying my sheets up in the middle of the night this happened several times and then my Auntys 3 y/o and 6 y/o boys also started to say about it, It happened all the time, we would even find the towels folded in the morning and the dish cloth (that was in the laundry) folded neatly over the tap.
I guess she was lucky having a nice ghost who helped with house work, kinda weird but true. It was said that an elderley lady died, shortly after WW2 in the house.

Another experience was in my own house, we used to put our keys on the kitchen bench at night, however we would wake up in the middle of the night to doorbells ringing and the keys turning in the door, we thought someone was trying to access the house, so my dad hid behind the bushes with a baseball bat, yet no one was there and he say the door handly move and the keys turn, we also came home to the doors and windows wide open, we moved from the house after about a year.

So whats your experiences, dont be shy SHARE!!!  Smile

Nothing really, but I do often hear doors banging in the night. The only 'ghost' i can think of which it could be is my late father who died 2 years ago. Nice to see your aunty had a friendly ghost  Smile

The Only time I experienced an Unexplainable event. Was when at Night Shift at Work at The Airport.I took a break for a snack.Instead of going the Long way which is illuminated to the Snackbar.I took the Shorter Dark route.Ahead I noticed a elder person in Airline uniform smoking at a distance. But when I reached there The person started moving around the corner. When I reached the Corner a few seconds later, the person had vanished.

It was not possible cause there was a wide open field ahead & the person even if they ran away would be noticable.

Later on the way back I took the Long bright road & noticed that there was an Accident at the route I normally take between two Taxies.Luckily I avoided the route that night.

Unexplainable.Till date.
never seen any Ghost anytime though.

Interesting stuff guys, Pilotdude like you im also very into hearing other peoples ghost experiences!

My experience was a sound rather than seeing the "ghost". My parents own a Gym and one day in school holidays (a bank holiday) we went up there to do some maintenance on the treadmills.
We arrived at the gym and opened the first glass door and went inside then shut that and locked it. We then went through the next glasss door and switched on the reception light. There was a loud sound coming from upstairs like Thud..........Thud.......Thud.....Thud and then like running me and my dad the looked at each other and thought What the heck was that so we walked up the stairs and checked around for people and there was no-one, we then went down the stairs at the other side of the building and checked the emergency escape and it hadnt been touched. Now bareing in mind that both doors were locked and not touched what else could it have been? BTW the footsteps followed a floorway were most people walk so it wasnt pipes.

Rgds --James--

P.S. Keep em comin guys and gals!!
You cant have your cake and eat it... What the hells the point in having it then!!!

Ok, I'll bite- I believe I've seen a ghost (or something that I have no idea what it was). In my late teens, my group of friends and I used to hang out in the woods behind one of my parent's homes at night, to get out of the house and hang out and do what we wanted to do (which included drinking, so if you would like to discount this story because of that I would understand). Anyway, on the other side of these woods was a house where a guy who was letting his dog out in the evening was attacked and killed, and his house then robbed. We think it was this guy's ghost.
It was always a creepy feeling in these woods, but my only "encounter" was one night when I saw a shadow moving around us in the woods as we sat out there in lawn chairs arranged in a circle. To set the scene, I say "woods" but it was a suburban plot, maybe 5 acres of woods surrounded by houses, not deep forest. There wasn't a fire going, and the woods are penetrated by light from two sides from the homes and parking lot lights. It was enough light that we would have seen if it was an animal or person, it wasn't. It was an amorphous blob-like shadow. My friend (sitting opposite of me) first saw it and said "what's that?" We all looked (five of us) and didn't see anything, he said it was like a shadow floating behind us. As we saw nothing, we figured it was nothing, and just discounted it. About 30 seconds later, I see the same thing he just described go behind him. It didn't make a sound and I watched it move through the trees for a few seconds about twenty feet away, back lit from orange parking lot lights (it blocked this light out as it moved). After failing to process what I am seeing, I say "hey, what is that?" I describe what I am seeing, and my friend says, "that's what I just saw go behind you." It was moving in a consistent direction to what my friend has just seen, in other words it was circling us. We run. That was the only time I saw it, but my other friends said they had seen "shadowguy" on a few occasions out there, always at night. He didn't like us hanging out in the woods apparently, and they would see this shadow jump from behind one tree to another five feet from them and scare the bejeezus out of them. One of my other friends said he was walking through there, and suddenly noticed a guy with a moustache standing right next to him holding a cigar in broad daylight. He blinked and the guy was gone.
So, yes we were drinking beer, but I saw this and I swear by it to this day.

The same thing happens in my house! I leave towels lying on the bathroom floor..... next day they are hung up again. I leave plates on the bench and next morning they are washed and put away. The dirty clothes lying on my floor dissapear only to reappear a few days later in a nice folded pile on the bottom of my bed.

Shortly after my father passed away, I was 7 at the time, I kept hearing a slight knock at my bedroom door. I kept saying 'come in' but nobody did. So finally I get out of bed and open the door, but there was no one there. As soon as I got back in bed, I felt as if someone was walking into my bed. The next morning I woke up with my blanket neatly folded.

BTW, my father was 63 when he died in a car accident. My aunt was with him when he crashed and died. Years later, she told me that their last conversation was about what was going to happen to my sister and I. We were very young at the time and my father and my mother were having marital difficulties. Needless to say, I kept feeling his presence for a long time.

My fire station is haunted, numerous times I've heard foot steps up the stairs, doors closing, etc. We used to have a bell off our old engine mounted on the wall in the presidents office. Often it would just ring. We took it off when we moved the office around, so it doesn't happen anymore. Many other members have similar stories, including seeing an old man sitting in a chair. The firefighter was sleeping on the couch and heard a paper rustling behind, he glanced up breiefly and seen him. Thinking it was one of our old timers just haning out and paid no mind. After realizing he didn't recognize him, he looked again and he was gone. Another time a new firefighter was upstairs watching TV when he heard bells going down in the truck bay. He went down stairs and on one of our trucks three air pack alarm bells were going off (they ring when a firefighters air pressure is low in the air cylander letting the firefighter know his air is running low). He wasn't sure what to do, so he pulled them off the truck and noted the time. The scary part was at the same time three local firefighters were killed in a house fire when they became lost and trapped. It occured at the same time he had noted. One time a few guys were out at the local bar and met a lady who, long story short said she was psychic. They had mentioned stories about our fire station, and they stopped by the station. As soon as she walked into the station she asked who so-and-so was. She had mentioned a member who had just passed away, and had never met anyone or knew anyone from our station. She then looked at one of our trucks, and said she seen three men sitting in it. The truck we had was an old FDNY (New York City) rig and had three marks carved into the steering wheel, we knew then what that must have meant.

Besides the fire station stuff, I am a avid civil war buff. One trip to Gettysburg my wife and I had stopped at the "Triangular Field". it has always been well known for causing malfunctions to electionic equipment (which I found out later). I had snapped a few pics on a clear sunny summer day, and the camera went dead. I thought nothing about it and drove into town to buy new batteries. The camera started working again, and when I got the film developed, some of the photos had white mist and haze in them.

I've never seen an apparition, but I know I don't hope to see one.

Well, sorry to be a party pooper, but I do not believe in ghosts, telepathy or psychics. Every single story of a ghostly apparition has never been proven when scrutinized under science.

Psychics have many tricks to get information from the person they are talking to which then appears as if they were reading your mind. One of them is called "Cold Reading"

So, to all of you who have posted, I'm not saying you are lying, what I am saying is that there is a perfectly rational explanation for all those phenomena described. I reccommend a book called "Pseudoscience a manual for the skeptikal." In these book you'll find answers to what until today, you thought were Ghosts, etc.

I guess now I will become a victim of the flaming police.

Why don't you save us the time and offer up some explanations? By the way, who was talking about psychics? I don't believe in that either as it's one of the few "paranormal" fields that can easily be tested scientifically and seems to fail every time.

I'll also reiterate the above posts.
I can't believe in this stuff, it's all formulas and physics as far as I'm concerned.

I've had some disturbing dreams in the past that actually predicted future events, but that's only because those events were very predictable and pending.

I've never had visions or anything like it. It's all facts and mathematics... Of course we are humans are our brains are complex, they can play silly tricks on anyone, and if one day I see a huge white creature eating my dinner the first thing I'll question is my brain and nothing or hardly anything else.

If you read my post correctly, I'm saving you time by suggesting a very important book on the subject. I will not patronize anyone by offering explanations for their experience. Go and get the book. Other than that, you don't need to lash out at people that differ on your opinion.

We refer to our "ghosts" as roommates.

Every now and then you see shadows or hear footsteps. Every now and then a light would go on or off by itself.

They were here first, so we do not bother them. Nor do they bother us. Although they seem to keep to the back part of the house, we live together harmoniously.

It's kind of cool having them around. They keep an eye on things when we are gone.

I apologize for interpreting your post to me as hostile. English is not my native language, and it sometimes sounds harsh. Here's an example, I'll quote it directly from the book I've been mentioning:

"Most reports of hauntings derive from far more mundane phenomena. Strange moans, groans and knockings, and the like are heard. Or doors swing shut when no breeze was about. These are sometimes interpreted as being due to a ghostly presence, even if an apparition is never seen. It is certainly a giant leap from a series of odd noises or a door swinging to a haunted house. Any house, but especially other ones, will creak and groan as temperature and humidity changes. Such noises can easily be mistaken for the sound of footsteps by those inclined to imagine the presence of a deceased tenant in their abode. A well balanced door can be easily shut by a slight breeze, too small to be detected by the witness standing a few feet away. "

Pseudoscience and the Paranormal, a critical examination of the evidence. Terence Hines.

Terence Hines is a professor of psychology at Pace University and is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He has published many articles in the field of psychology as well as critical reviews of parapsychology.

While working for a former employer I would often work late into the night. My office was up front in a complex of 5-6 or six offices in the tech department. It was a Airline operation so it was not unusual for other empolyees to come in out at odd hours. For some reason most of the employees would leave their lights on when they left so you rally never new who was in or out.

So while I am sitting at my desk working , I would here the sound of a man coughing , more like clearing his thoat. The first couple times I heard it I dismissed it thinking someone had come in or whatever. One night I heard the sound and decided to walk back and see if Rob or one of the guys had come in,, of course no one was their. I kind of got a wierd feeling but again dismissed it as a sound from a drain pipe or whatever. But I continued to hear the sound and it was very distinct , just like a guy coughing then clearing his throat.

I didnt say anything to anyone thinking that they would think I am crazy or whatever. But one day , a lady in accounting came into my office and asked if I was staying late. She said that she would not stay late by herself because the place freaked her out. She said she heard the sound of a man coughing coming from the office next to her's. She was embarresed and tried to kind of laugh it off , but I got goose bumps right away and told her that I had heard the same thing and that I would stick around.

No apology necessary, your English is great and it's my fault. I have a formal way of writing and my coworkers often think I'm mad at them after sending emails when it's just the way I write.
In terms of the paragraph you quote, I certainly agree that those are things that should be eliminated as possibilities before claiming some sort of paranormal influence. I'm sure that there are a lot of "hauntings" that can be explained by those things. For me however, I have to say I don't think all of them can.

I have a reoccurring dream of a past life. I usually have it when I'm exhausted or ill with a fever.

I died in France in January 1772. There was a brothel fire in Lyon and I died. I didn't die in the fire; I froze to death. I was a customer who jumped out of a third story window and I broke my leg when I landed. I lost consciousness and died of hypothermia.

Even have an aviation related one. Feel free to call BS on this though if you feel like...

My father started work at a new job about 15yrs ago in Chertsey not far from Heathrow. One of the women he hired soon after starting the new job was about to move into the area, she was single and lived alone. She spoke to my father about hearing the noise of someone sobbing at night and things like her groceries would get moved about while she was unloading her car. One night she heard the sobbing on the landing and the mumblings of someone saying 'It was all my fault'. Occassionally she would see flashes of someone wearing a pilots uniform around her house. She spoke to my father about it and it turns out she lived very close to the site of the BEA Trident accident. She had no knowledge of the accident in question.

Another time my father returned from work and recalled a rather odd experience about parking his car at work. He arrived early that morning and was in the office parking lot which had one way entrance/exit. He put his car in the space but was slightly misaligned so he got back in and was about to reverse and try again. He looked behind and noticed a green Vauxhall Omega driven by a chauffeur and had a man in a suit sitting in the back. He thought it was bit odd since it was heading towards a dead end but waited for it to pass before reversing. Between looking over his left shoulder at the vehicle and glancing to the right to make sure it passed the thing had disappeared. Nowhere it could have gone and was no more than a second between the two glances. He was quite taken aback and he is an extremely rational thinker yet had no way of explaining this one.

I agree. There will always be a phenomenon that is beyond today's scientific explanation. For example, take those patients who have advanced cancer and suddenly go into remission, with not a single malignant cell in their bodies. It has no explanation (aside from a miracle if you believe in such) Today's science cannot explain those cases.

Now, let me open the thread to UFOS. I believe there is life in other planets, intelligent life, and I believe they have at times decided to spy on Earth. My personal anecdote happened at my family's ranch. It's a 1800 hectare property in the middle of nowhere where we raise Charolais cattle. In 1994 I was there with a few friends and beer was involved, I'll admitt. All of a sudden we saw a bright light in the sky that was moving in all directions, very fast. It would go forward, then stop and go backwards in milliseconds, then it would start zigzagging. We were not afraid, but in awe. What object can perform those maneuvers at such speed?

We never really knew.

Excellent. I'd love to see a UFO. However, in line with some of the rational explanations put forth for hauntings such as a slight unnoticed breeze that blows the door closed, can you immediately attribute your observation to a craft of extraterrestrial origin flown by intelligent alien beings? Are you able to rule out secret experimental aircraft developed on Earth, or also something more likely, as in a rare form of energy produced by the Earth? Perhaps ball lightining, or what are known as "earthquake lights." These have been known to precede earthquakes and are thought to be produced by the tremendous pressures within the Earth, manifesting as luminous balls of plasma near fault lines. Very poorly understood by science due to their rarity. Sounds like you saw something very interesting, whatever it was.

You did see a UFO, an Unidentified Flying Object, since you don't know what it is and I doubt few people would deny that.

Are you suggesting, however, that you saw an alien spacecraft?  Wow!.... Wink

I know of no aircraft that exists nowadays that could have performed such maneuvers. Having said that, my ignorance of such aircraft does not mean it doesn't exist. It goes both ways. Yes I believe it could have been an extraterrestrial craft, and yes, it could have been a perfectly explainable earth vehicle or phenomena.

As some of you know, my father died, suddenly, one year and 6 months ago. Before he slipped into his comma. His last one. He was in the middle of telling me many important things regarding the financial aspects of our lifestyle. He was not able to. He died.

However, in the following two months, in the middle of my grief (which is still ongoing as I cannot look at a picture of him) as tears will overflow my sight, he has appeared in my dreams and told me which people to contact, where are stuff I'm looking for, etc. I'm talking deeds, certificates of rent, alimonies, property values, unknown account numbers in different banks, and lists of debtors who are behind and we need to collect from.

The rational explanation would be that I subliminally knew all that stuff and my subconscious brought it forward when I needed it. But I can also choose to believe that my father comes to me in my dreams from wherever he's at, to make me feel better. And to make sure we I leave things straight for my mother so she can live the way she wants for the next 15 years. Given the amount of cigarretes a day she smokes, I don't give her more than 15 years.

So, Which gives? I really don't know. Am I seeing his ghost in my dreams? or Am I being a victim of subliminal perception. In any case. Please don't make fun. It's hurtful enough as it is. Thanks.

I'll also reiterate the above posts.
I can't believe in this stuff, it's all formulas and physics as far as I'm concerned.

How do you explain the fact that Vodoo and black magic kills many people each year but these crimes are never punished since police can't find any evidence..!
Even in Europe there are many people paying "sorciers" and Vodoo-priests to perform black rites that actually physically dammage people and drive them to suicide, disease and folly.
We have spoken to various doctors here in France with an open mind and even they send sometimes patients to people with special capabilities to remove spells, since they can't find any medical explinations to some patients traumas.
We know about one doctor who had a case of a patient who was losing it's skin -it literrally fell off it's body- the patient dies from something nobody could explain. Most members of it's family died in misterious circumstances and the doctor tols us for him it was a classical case of Black magic !
Please respect animals - don't eat them...

To me, its not his ghost, it is your father communicating with you. Many of my family had, including me, the same experience after my father died.

Is there an 'afterlife'. It depends on what you choose to believe. I will tell you all again our own recent painful experience. You decide.

We decided to have a third child. After trying for a little bit, Alex was conceived. We called the baby Alex as a neutral name, since we didnt find out the sex yet. My wife one night had a dream that Alex came to her and told her that he had died (in utero) and was in a better place. She was so concerned that many of our friends and family knew of the dream.

About 1.5 weeks later, she went for a normal checkup, and called me crying to let me know that Alex was dead. The doctor told her that Alex had died about 1.5 weeks previously. Who came to my wife in her dreams?

We grieve deeply for our loss and our baby received a proper burial with headstone. We cherish more what we have now.
