Rhaa! I Am Starting To Enjoy Golf!

Wed Jun 07, 2006 6:02 pm

So it appears I am enjoying more and more hitting a small white ball into a hole rather than throwing a big orange ball into a hole.

Are these signs that I am becoming like Skidmarks or are there any young a.netters here who also tee off from time to time ?

As one said, the older you grow, the smaller the balls...

I have played golf and I am not a fan. Stick to the orange ball. It is actually a sport that will keep you in shape.

I took up golf three years ago - when I was 50. I wish I would have started earlier.

I'm just this year beginning to enjoy it. In fact, I'd much rather be teeing off right now.

You are smart to have started young. While it might not be as physically beneficial as other sports, golf is a game you can play a long time after you can no longer compete on the soccer pitch or basketball court. And it's great for networking....

I am not an old git like Skidmarks (thank god) and part of the younger generation of a.netters who plays golf. Was introduced to the game about ten years ago but still play as badly as on the first day (or nearly).

I picked up a set of clubs a few months ago, and have only gone out to the driving range once, mainly because I'm not used to hitting off of those rubber tees the place has. I could barely hit the ball 200 yards with my driver from those tees, that is if I didn't hook it or slice it. You can say I haven't started to enjoy golf yet....

I've been playing since I was 13, I'm 20 now. Sometimes a good walk around 9 holes hits the spot...unfortunately for my game, not the pin.

I just got into the sport three years ago and I also suck it....
I only hit the fairway less than 50 percent of the time....I should take a new sport seriously...This sport is pretty expensive...

I play golf (not very well of course) but I still enjoy it. It can be very frustrating at times, but then you get that one perfect shot that makes all that frustration go away. The 19th hole is my favorite part of golf  Smile And I like the phrase, "A bad day of golf is better than a good day at work."

What other sport is there that it is legal to drink and drive while chasing a little white ball across prime real estate? I love it. Just reading the topic makes me want to go out and play 18.

Been playing on and off for a while. Started when I was about 12yrs old and went to the driving range with my mother as she was getting a bit of practise before some corporate golf event.

Got my first half set of clubs and started playing at Par 3 golf courses. Subsequent Xmas and birthdays, as well as a bit of earned money brought new additions and replacements to the bag and eventually I joined a quite prestigious golf club near my home a few years later as a junior member. Got my handicap and worked on it while I was at home. Being away at boarding school meant I played several times a week during the long school holidays but rarely when I was away. Got my handicap down to about 16 which was a fairly decent average of where I was scoring year round. Low 90s when I was back from school down to low 80s at the end of the summer.

Currently my clubs are in the UK and so haven't played much beyond the one surprise round my wife's aunt got for me at the local Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Virginia Beach. I was so unprepared I had to buy shorts in the pro-shop and borrow the pro's clubs!  Smile

Being out in the sun, walking around a nice golf course shooting low 80s is certainly a good way to spend a summers day. Walking around a golf course in the pouring rain in the middle of January verging on triple figures is not!

Been playing on and off for a while, at a local driving range and pay-per-round course near our house. We're heading out on holiday to a resort on Barbados my dad's company owns - Royal Westmoreland. The resort has an 18 hole, Championship course with all manner of insane challenges - including monkeys who steal your ball from the green. I think I'll be making the 'lost ball' record!

Walking around a golf course in Vermont in June in the rain is not fun, but a round on a nice day is; and you get some moderate exercise, as long as you walk, and leave the golf cart behind!
