Been playing on and off for a while. Started when I was about 12yrs old and went to the driving range with my mother as she was getting a bit of practise before some corporate golf event.
Got my first half set of clubs and started playing at Par 3 golf courses. Subsequent Xmas and birthdays, as well as a bit of earned money brought new additions and replacements to the bag and eventually I joined a quite prestigious golf club near my home a few years later as a junior member. Got my handicap and worked on it while I was at home. Being away at boarding school meant I played several times a week during the long school holidays but rarely when I was away. Got my handicap down to about 16 which was a fairly decent average of where I was scoring year round. Low 90s when I was back from school down to low 80s at the end of the summer.
Currently my clubs are in the UK and so haven't played much beyond the one surprise round my wife's aunt got for me at the local Arnold Palmer Signature Course in Virginia Beach. I was so unprepared I had to buy shorts in the pro-shop and borrow the pro's clubs!
Being out in the sun, walking around a nice golf course shooting low 80s is certainly a good way to spend a summers day. Walking around a golf course in the pouring rain in the middle of January verging on triple figures is not!
