Mosquito Rage

Fri Jun 09, 2006 11:21 am

I had the window open during the day. Now I closed it and turned on the A/C (pretty hot here already). But there is this one mosquito that stayed in the room...
It already took several bites of me of me while I was browsing the net 2-3 hours ago. Now I want to sleep, but every time I start to doze off it comes back. I have a can of bugspray at hand (2 cans actually) but I cant do a thing, it just disappears... and I have 2.5 degrees myopia so I have close to zero chance to see that darn thing. I dont have any glasses, only contact lenses that I wear during the day. I have to remove them to sleep.
Now it's hiding somewhere, probably digesting... or maybe waiting for me to sleep. I swear mosquitoes get smarter every year.

I'm really taking it personal. I want to squish that mofo.

If you spray it with cheap hairspray (ex. aquanet) its wings will be stuck and it will die. Then you won't have bug-spray all over your room. I absolutely HATE mosquitoes. I had over 100 bites on my feet one night.

In Florida we have two versions of our "State Bird"...ones that fly through screen doors and ones that open them.

I ran into that problem last summer in Florida.......

In april my wife hiked a really cool boardwalk into the Big Cypress Swamp. So when I went back to south Florida with her in late June I really really wanted to see the boardwalk from which you could spot gators and such. We parked the car at the trailhead got out and made it about 50 feet from the car before we were surrounded in a big cloud of mosquitos. we spent the whole trip back to Naple swatting mosquitos in the car. Never again will i go back into the glades in the summertime!!

The original poster's account reminds me of the song "Boris the Spider".

I grew up in New Jersey and the mosquitoes there were pretty large and persistent in my youth.....the city Jeep with the DDT fogger was a regular sight on summer evenings.

It was always said that a Jersey mosquito landed at one of the local airports and took on several hundred gallons of avgas before anyone figured out what was going on.

Ahh...memories of the county trucks with the mosquito sprayers on the back. You could hear the things coming from miles away but yet mom would always let us continue to play outside despite fogging the neighborhood. Maybe she was trying to tell me something?  Wink

If you cover yourself in Deep Woods Off! and then spray yourself down a few more times until drenched you stand a better chance of survival.

I live in the south of France close to a beautyful area and nature-parc called "la Camargue".
While the nature ,birds, wild horses and torros are breathtakingly scenic, the moskitos can drive you nuts....!!!
The worse thing is that the "green-party" here does not want them destroyed, because they claim it's part of the envirenment.(which of course is true but they have horses killed here through mosquito-bites transmitting the west -nile virus..)
So I know all about mosquitos and HATE them!!!!
There is no known cure against them other than protecting open windows with mosquito-nets..
Please respect animals - don't eat them...

It shows you how misguided those people are. Shit is a part of the natural environment but I'll bet every one of them wipes their butts, right? If they don't, I don't want em around either.

We have had episodes of West Nile virus here, and it regularly kills half a dozen people who contract it every summer.

They have a point though, mosquitoes are a part of the ecosystem and we cannot accurately measure the repercussions that their elimination would have, it migh provoke a desiquilibrium that will be more harmful then having mosquitoes around.

Once you have seen a horse dying from West-nile virus you hate Mosquitos..
The poor horses are litterally rottening to death from open wounds .
I am a profound nature lover but mosquitos can be reduced in certain areas to acceptable levels. In the Camargue they are all over in black-clouds in trillions of beasts...
Reducing their population to 10% would still mean several trillions left over...
Please respect animals - don't eat them...
