FIFA World Cup Day 4 (Jun 12) - Predictions

Mon Jun 12, 2006 5:40 am

I am being put to sleep by Portugal - Angola 2nd half so let us start discussing Day 4!

Following match-ups!

Match 1-
AUS - JPN

Match 2-
USA - CZE

Match 3-
ITA - GHA

I am curious to see how the USA will take on the Czechs, and if the Americans have improved over the last 4 years!

I still like those commercials, though that might be that I don't see them too often.

See, here in the States they show that commercial three times, give or take, per broadcast: once before the game starts (on the commercial break between the opening analyses and kick-off,) at half-time and between the time the match is over and the time they come back for the final analysis of the game. So 3 times per game X 62 matches, that's a staggering 186 times that I'll get to see that chubby kid say "Beckenbauer? Haha!"

*yawn* Dear Portgual: could you be any more boring?

Anyway, onward to Day 4:
AUS - JPN 2:1
USA - CZE 1:3
ITA - GHA 2:0

You should see it in Brazil. People get to go home early from work. I don't mean sneak out either, your shift ends early so you can go watch the game. Try going anywhere during a match. Everything is shut down or people are glued to a radio or TV watching the game. The hustling city of Sao Paulo becomes a ghost town during Brazil games. It's quite amazing...

Well the streets will also be empty on wednesday when GER plays POL.
So anyway here are my picks:
AUS - JAP 1 - 2
JAP impressed mw when playing against GER.
USA - CZE 1 - 2
ITA - GHA 3 - 0

AUS- JPN 0:3
USA - CZE 0:3
ITA - GHA 2:0

I love Australia but I have to be pragmatic here. The Japanese are very quick players and Australia does not have much experience in World cups

CZE has a solid defense. USA's strategy with this coach has been to wait until a hole opens in the defense and go for it.

Italy always does the minimum effort on the first round.

Conservative politicians even considered the deployment of soldiers as kind of a support act for police, which however would probably have been unconstitutional. Besides, soldiers are not properly trained for that task.
