College Baseball World Series: Nearly Set!

Mon Jun 12, 2006 1:21 pm

Well, as I sit here, Oregon State is flat out dropping the hammer on Stanford in game two of the Super Regional we are hosting in Corvallis at Goss. OSU is up in the series 1-0. We are up 12-0, on 14 hits.

Any predictions on how you think the CWS will play out this season? We've all ready seen some of the national powers bow out early this season.

Right now we've seen Clemson, Cal State Fullerton, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina all punch their tickets to Omaha. And, unless Oregon State flat out self destructs in the next 2 2/3 innings, they will sweep their way to Omaha as well.

As usual, OSU has gotten zero respect. However, their pitching staff is flat lights out this season. Dalls Buck, and Jonah Nickerson, the Friday and Saturday starters, were both drafted high this season. Nick is dominating the Stanford lineup again tonight. He's owned them this season. I would look for a "shock" and "suprise" out of OSU as the media will tag it. I could see them making it to the championship series this season. They are scary good.

South Carolina is playing like two different teams - on Saturday they lit up Georgia, going yard 5 consecutive times on a way to a 15-6 win, then they come out flat yesterday, losing 11-5. Tonight's game on ESPN2 will be the clincher - one team goes to Omaha, one team goes home. Here's hoping USC pulls through - GO COCKS!

If ya can't respect baseball, you don't have to respond, ROC.

Dude, I respect baseball...the game that is played without rocket launchers. Either way, relax.

If college baseball were to get rid of aluminum bats, and has tried....Only to be threatened with being sued by the bat manufacturers. There is nothing terribly wrong with using metal bats. They are not rocket launchers. I think your bias is blatently obvious, and it is, in fact, waaaaaaay over exagerated.

I woud love to see wood bats in college as much as you. Believe me. But, it won't happen for a long time. Not as long as Wilson/Dimarini continue to offer schools like Oregon State free bats, etc. Schools get big money from these companies. And the kids make flat out ridiculous defensive plays. Look at what Chris Kunda did at Oregon State Saturday night. The play he made up the middle to get the batter at first was better than most big leaguers. Then the turn he made at 2nd on a doubble play late in the game....Again, better than most big leaguers.

College baseball hasn't been ruined by aluminum bats. Yes, I think they set the sport back a little offensively, but it hasn't ruined the game. When the kids start hitting the ball 450+ feet consistantly...Then we can worry about these bats being "Rocket launchers".

I never said college baseball was ruined by aluminum bats. I enjoy the college game, and I always pay attention to the CWS (although not so much this year as my favorite MLB team the Mets are actually giving me something to watch this year). However, as a DH hating purist, I despise with every inch of my being that horrible "PING" that one hears in college baseball. Its just not right, and I will always make fun of that.

Preach it, brother KROC  praise . Aluminum bats, along with the DH and artificial turf are abominations on par with those infamous Chicago White Sox uniforms with the shorts, sansabelt uniform pants, and the Pittsburgh pillbox-style caps. The last three were done away with, time to do away with the first three.

And you do not have to use the DH in college baseball. And, many teams opt NOT to use the DH. UCLA, for example, has at least one pitcher that can flat out pound the ball, thus, they do not use the DH. So, there goes that reason to hate on college baseball.

As for the bats, get over it. You make the noise the bat makes sound like the worst possible sound you could ever hear. I think you are blowing it a bit out of proportion.
