Are you like me and basically turn the channel when they start with the weather on the news?
I think that weather news, even if it's about hurricanes, should only be carried nationally if it threatens to cause major damage. Today, there's been a lot of coverage of Tropical Storm Alberto, and it's boring. It's not even going to hit the Gulf Coast oil fields, so what's the point of covering it so much?
It's a close call, though. Sometimes, folks complain if newspeople concentrate on things only when they become crises, and don't provide enough background.
However, in watching the news, I found that, instead of weather news, today's coverage of the Zarqawi autopsy would have been far more interesting, if they'd only provide more analysis of what actually happened. Why were the Iraqi police on the scene, for example? How were the notified? Etc.
Also, there are way too many stories about sex scandals.
I guess that investigative reporting is just more difficult.
Do you care about weather news or other relatively minor issues unless it affects you?
