FIFA World Cup Day 6 (Jun 14) - Predictions

Wed Jun 14, 2006 6:06 am

Maybe it is time to start a new thread about tomorrow... This day will see some interesting games...

My predictions:

Spain - Ukraine: 2:2
Tunesien-Saudi Arabien 3:0
Deutschland - Polen 2:2

While I hope that Germany wins, I don't think so.

If Poland plays this match just like the first, Germany has very good chances.

I think the Spain-Ukraine game is going to be interesting since Spain always has a ton of talent but never delivers. (See Jason Whitebird) He was wearing a Spain Soccer jersey when he visited NY last month.  biggrin

I can't see Poland playing to a draw with Germany. We will see!

Ok, my turn:

Spain - Ukraine: 2:1 (with Ukraine beeing the better team)
Tunisia - Saudi Arabia 2:0
Germany - Poland 2:2

Actually, I have the feeling Poland will win.
They can't effort another match like their first, but our defense will remain to be weak.

Not only the logo, the mascot - Goleo - as well.

What the heck has a lion to do with Germany? Nothing! Lions don't live here, lions have not the slightest to do with Germany, so why did they choose a friggin' lion? It is completely beyond me!

No wonder that the company which invented it went bust, they deserved it!

Yeah alright! Looks like Poland is finally getting some respect in here!  Yeah sure (I'm Polish BTW both my Parents are from there)
So anyways on to my predictions:
Spain 2 - Ukraine 1
Tunisia 1 - Saudi Arabia 1
Germany 2 - Poland 2 (As much as I want Poland to win, I think they will settle for a tie)
Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

They didn't invent it. They were merely mass manufacturing it. Goleo was actually created by the Jim Henson Shop in LA, and Nici got the licence to mass manufacture it.

I beliebe the Lion is part of some of the region's coats of arms (if not the Lion, then at least it's a feline in general), though I agree, an Eagle would have been much proper, since it's our National coat of arms.

That being said, does anyone have a picture of the German World Cup mascots from 1974?

On a funnier side, you're not playing Argentina on Friday, so it's not that bad.

As if a lion with pants was any more "natural"...!  mischievous

I for my part am perfectly happy if both the polish and the german team can leave the field halfway honourably and if no serious injuries occur on the way, both in and outside of the stadium...!

Hoping for a good game would probably be asking too much, under the circumstances...

I doubt any serious fan tensions (if any) would escalate that much for a Poland/Germany match. Can't speak for the hooligans, but then again, no one can.

Now Poland v. Russia...you Krauts got lucky...that match, no matter the outcome would leave the host city not more than cinders.  Wink

Anywho...team with poor defense vs. team that doesn't take the WC seriously. It'll either be a tie, or both teams will make fools of themselves...

Yeah I do speak Polish fluently around the house with family. Half of the family is over here and half is in Poland. I've been to Poland twice and the first time I had to stay there for 6 months. My parents talked to me in Polish as I grew up so that was my first language but never learned how to write in polish though cause once I turned 4 I went off the preschool and learned to understand english like in a week. And my parents never came back to me learning to write it. Well anyways I hope I didn't bore you with this but I guess I got carried away! Don't judge a book by its cover! Silly

Sorry, but in my renewed patriotism for Germany, I'm starting to doubt that. Even that co-worker of mine, who happens to be Polish from his mother's side seems to be hopeless. I believe he even told me that if the Polish don't turn around against Germany and start winning, Pawel Janas might be sacked.

I reckon, Germany's defence might be shaky, but if they win against Poland and also earn that victory and don't just get lucky, then I might be considering Germany at least semi-final material.  Wink

That doesn't change the fact for me that Italy is World Champion material and will win this tournament.  Silly

I read somewhere that the Polish and German hooligans got together before the WC to drink beer and kick the sh*t out of each other as practice for the WC.  box  - seriously though, if true, how pathetic is that?

Anyway, not this Pole. I'll be sitting here in Berlin with some German work collegues of mine watching it on the big-screen. The nice thing though is, I can change identities like that - thanks to the fact that I've got two passports

Seriously, what's wrong with that? I don't thnik the police should waste public funds and energy trying to prevent this. They want to beat the sh*t out of each other, kill each other? Just give them some underground garage lock 'em up and don't let anyone out until it's over and most of all - should anyone from these retards require medical treatment afterwards make 'em pay cash!

I see what you mean. So if you don't win the match, you will still win the fight outside of the stadium then?  Wink

Just remember for the actual game: the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund is like a German fortress. It will be difficult to win against Germany there, because in the last few games, Germany has not lost any of those when they played in Dortmund. Big grin

Quoting LOT767-300ER (Reply 45):
Thats sign is not intended for Germany or World Cup 2006. That is intended for Austria and their police in Euro 2008.

Don't forget Switzerland, which will co-host with Austria.  Wink  duck

Hmm. Can I jump in here?

ESP 0 - 1 UKR
TUN 2 - 0 KSA
GER 3 - 2 POL

Germany's team sure makes for plenty of goals - great up front and a back line that couldn't fight its way out of a wet paper bag. Keep it up!  silly

Oh and I couldn't get this in yesterday's thread - Ronaldo is a fat git.
