Posting From The Emergency Room

Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:57 pm

It's 2 in the morning and I'm sitting in a spine-contorting plastic chair at the Crapchester General Hospital ER. Nancy started experiencing complications from her surgery, culminating in a spectacular collapse at the registration window.

We've been sitting here for close to 3 hours. I guess the doctor has to get through a lot of black eyes and broken hips ere he can worry about us.

I hate the Emergency Room. Especially at 2 in the morning. At least I have a nifty phone with which I can post delerium-induced drivel to A.net.

Hi Mark

Sorry to hear that. Wasn't it a bit fast to send her home after only 48 hours? Patients in her condition stay in the hospital for 10 days around here... You can IM me if you have any questions I may help you with.

Good luck to you both.

I am serious! Patients tend to stay admitted until the stitches can be removed in Germany, ca. 7 - 10 days except for laparoscopic surgeries.

A friend of mine in Wisconsin had a perforated appendicitis and was operated on in a medical center (a big one). He was discharged within 48 hours. He had a horrible wound infection, and remained in and out of the emergency room for exactly 5 weeks. Wouldn't it be easier to keep him on i.v. antibiotics a bit longer and discharge him cured after 5-7 days?

Sorry about the hijacking of the thread...

Well, Mark, I hope she's better soon.

I had my own six hour visit to the ER on Monday evening... The worst migraine I've ever had. I had to wait almost three hours for pain medication, the whole time in a darkened room with my eyes closed and sunglasses on and still feeling like a spotlight was periodically crossing my field of vision from left to right every few minutes.

Migraines suck. Surgery sucks. Please pass on my well wishes.
Up, up and away!

Don't expect to see me around that much (if at all) -- the contact link should still work, though.

My dad has had that surgery 4 times and usually only stays 2 days at the most. He's never had any complications unrelated to the actual disease itself.

But anyway: Best wishes for your wife and I hope all goes well. I know what you're going through, so stay strong!

Seeing a loved one in pain is always hard. I hope all goes well!

Sincerely,

I'm feeling your pain with being in the horrible hospital chairs at 2am, I have been through this a number of times with my wife in recent years!

I'm glad to hear she's doing well..My wife had surgery last Friday (9th) and was released Saturday AM (10th). Unfortunately, we were at the ER later Saturday night for what ultimately was diagnosed as an anxiety attack. She's doing fine now and well on the road to recovery.

She's had her share of surgeries over the years.
