Got to be Germany, its a beautiful Country, I would love to live there. Fabulous countryside and so clean. On our first trip to visit friends in Mainz, we were in awe of the place, somewhere I would love to visit again.

Poland, my birth country, I've got a big sentiment for it, although it isn't perfect.

I don't want to live there now, as I have my life here, but everytime I land in WAW, I almost shread a tear. It's so nice.

Oh yeah, and I love to visit my older brother, too  Wink

I thought the idea of this thread was to name European countries OTHER than your own, like the Eurovision Song Contest.

For me it would be probably be all of the Med ones, if I could stick the heat in summer.

Surprisingly, France. That country is absolutely beautiful and when the people aren't being a bunch of asstraps, they are quite nice as well. Stay out of Paris and you'll know what I mean.

Otherwise I also like Greece and Switzerland.

Apart of my own country Slovenia, i will go for sure with Italy.

I like Germany, nothing to say, but the artistic heritage of Italy is the number one in the world for sure.

Same for the landscape, from the Alps to the rivers, hills, lakes and the islands and the Mediterranean. Tuscany is my favourite.

What to say about food?  Smile

I liked Norway (lovely people, great history, amazing landscapes), Italy (mad place to live, but such fun to visit - all the history, culture, cuisine in the world), and the UK (OK, it's a bit boring, but it's comfy, like an old sweater)

What do you like in a city? do you like life and activities, noise and events, or do you like quietness. That would be an interesting debate. The city where I live now is definitely in the second group.

Regarding this question, there are two highlights of art in Europe and that's it:

- France and the moyen-age: Louis XIV and all that was done by him and kings that followed him, unbeaten in Europe
- Italy, need I say more.

Europe suffered a great deal from German "history" so we should concentrate more on German culture.

Let's see...

The invention of the printing press made books accessible to not
just a select few...which brought forth the Enlightenment and
Renaissance.

Martin Luther's efforts basically set in motion the break in the Vatican's
control over much of the continent.

Bach, Beethoven, Hayden, Wagner contributed what again to the
musical arena?

Germany had no part in the advancement of aviation or auto
technology, right?

Before anyone forgets otherwise, Germany did not first bring destructive
wars to the European continent. In fact, a couple of those countries
that did were mentioned in the original post.

bring an end to that Empire's grip on the continent.

But I don't think that this event had any impact on European history.
