Alaska To Miami On A Jetski

Sun Jun 18, 2006 11:01 am

Two guys set out on June 15th from Ship Creek in Anchorage Alaska planning on going to Miami Florida. They plan on riding jetski's the entire way with no support boats carrying everything they need with them. The duo admits they have very little knowledge of the coast of America. Their journey can be followed at www.13000miles.com

Sounds like they are biting off more than they can chew. Planning out the trip and figuring out what to expect along the coast sounds like something I'd do before I took off. Best of luck to them.

I hope they know that the hippie granola crunchers in Homer got a law passed that bans Jetski's in Kachemak Bay.

And what is the milage.

Still this is a lot less attention then Michael Reagan got in the early 1980's when he set that powerboat record on the inside passage.

I'm guessing they've routed themselves through the Panama Canal, so I'll ask--are jet skis even *allowed* through the Canal?

Border crossings, even out at sea and customs clearance, the possibility of encountering drug smugglers and daily camping sites all require careful planning.

Which, apparently, they did not really do...

Well, at any rate, best of luck to them. I wonder how long it'll take the 24 hr news machine to pick this up. There's just enough (or, perhaps, plenty of) risk to make this juicy, lol.

According to the website it will be 13,500 miles. And by the sounds of it they might not know about Kachemak Bay. Although you'd kinda hope they'd be passed that point 2 days into it. The Anchorage Daily News ran a story on the duo. Article can be found at www.adn.com. Right now theres a picture on the front page.

Personally I think it's a bit stupid to do it without support crew. But, whatever.
