I Need Webhosting Help! (TedTAce!)

Fri Jun 23, 2006 9:19 pm

I need some help. I'm trying to try something out on my webhosting, it's called "Mambo". Anyways, I uploaded all the necessary files through my FTP software, and it's all there. I then have to go to the folder I hosted it to, and it'll load an installation form page. Now... On one of the steps, I'm stumped. I can't figure out the information that is required. Here is a screenshot of the form...

What is the hostname? I've tried everything from yyzmeet.org, yyzmeet, to my member username in any way possible, i've tried EVERYTHING?! Where can I find it?

BTW, if this may by any chance be of any help... I use Globat.com webhosting and my username for everything there is WhyWhyZed or whywhyzed.

Thanks alot, to anyone who can help me out. (TedTAce  Smile)

your "hostname" is the location of your MySQL database, check with your hosts for the address. The chances are its on the same machine, so using "localhost" will work 75% of the time..

You do have a mySQL database..???

localhost is what it would be if you were running it locally.

The hostname for a mysql database could be slightly different from your domain, I know mine is, however its fairly common for your domain to be the hostname.

Check your hosts FAQ's, it will be listed there. One last thing, you have a mysql database don't you?

I have just had a look at your hosts site quickly.

You do have a mysql database and you create and manage them in your hosts control panel. I guess it will tell you the hostname for it there.

The database is on another server (it says :Separate MySQL servers) so localhost won't work.

YYZ, thanks for the faith in my abilities in such things however, I'm a hardware, not a software guy. You want ideas on good hardware setups, Networks, fault tolerance, UPS/Generators. I'm your man. The person I know ho would likely have the BEST answer to this (I have not comment on above (though they seem good) as I don't know) would be Wukka.

Quoting WhyWhyZed (Thread starter):
it's called "Mambo".

Ah another Mambo user. Fine, Im now a Joomla user, but I did use mambo before doing the convert.

How I set my sites up:

You should have your database setup details from your webhost. Look at these, they should include the usernames here, and again your password. I don't know how your host does it, but thats how mine work.

In your hosts FAQ they mention:

'If you are creating databases for your own applications, the MySQL server will be localhost and the username and password are whatever you choose when creating the database.'

Hope this helps, and Im glad to meet another Joomla/Mambo user (its a great system).

Kev.

It'll be awhile till I start touching any of the hardware. lol. I'd do more damage than good. Thanks for the reply though.

Don't be jumping to conclusions. I'm just testing it out. It seems alright for a newbie, someone in a hurry or both (me).
