A Quick Way To Get From Ewr To Manhattan..

Wed Jun 28, 2006 10:16 am

Coming from Miami into Newark tomorrow morning, and leaving again in 6h and are planing to take a quick ride to BH Photo to get some gear..and another place...

Anyone got any good ideas what kind of transportation(maybe something beside a straight cab) to do this with?

Take the NJ Transit train to Penn Station. It'll leave you a couple of blocks from B&H Photo.

Yep AeroWesty hit the most logical option. NJ Transit runs trains frequently to NY Penn station from EWR. The ride takes about 25 minutes if I recall correctly.

30 mins to be exact (according to the signs at the airport). Last time I rode it, it was $11.50 each way. Just take the airport train away from the airport (opposite way of the rental car area) to the last stop.

The PATH doesn't stop at EWR... He would have to find his way over to Newark-Penn Station first...

The PATH is a great option (though you have to take NJ Transit to Newark Penn Station first and transfer) for going to Lower Manhattan. However, the place he mentioned, B&H, is in Midtown, and taking NJ Transit all the way is much more convenient.

Can you get the PATH that runs to 33rd street from NWK-Penn? If so, then Path is definately a viable option. Also.. does NJT run service from the airport to Hoboken? You could also transfer to the PATH that way. Frankly, though, it wouldnt come out much cheaper than the $11.50 each way on NJT which takes you right to NYPenn... just stick with NJT. Word to the wise, though-- Amtrak also runs the same service but charges MUCH more for it.

You can. However, B&H is closer to Penn Station than to the Path at 33rd and 6th. Plus, it's slower - PATH is only useful for Lower Manhattan due to the connection from NJT to PATH at Newark being much simpler than the transfer from NJT to subway at Penn Station.

There is also a shuttle service that runs between EWR and Penn/Grand Central Station. I think it's about $10. I forgot the name but ask someone around there.

Well, i would rent a car from EWR. One with a GPS ( I'd recommend Hertz) and then venture throughout NJ and NY. It's the best. You will get stuck in traffic. You will have drivers cuss you out. You will get lost and wind up in some odd neighborhood. You will most definetely arrive back at the airport and miss your flight....
But you will have a unique experience.
Of course , if you are really pushing for a time schedule, take mass transportation...LOL
For liability purposes : i only suggested the driving, because i used to drive in the tri state area (NY,NJ,CT). There's nothing like.....
Have a nice in Manhattan.
Cheers

Update:

http://www.coachusa.com/olympia/ss.newarkairport.asp

Here is the website. You can get a ticket online or just buy one there when you wait for the bus at the stop. I took it last year on a trip to NYC and it stopped off just a half block away from Grand Central. It's $14 one way or $26 round trip.

Well guys, the "smooky" SAS employee would not check us in that early so we had to drag our bags into Manhattan.. we ordered a Lincoln service and drowe into 34/9ave in about 40mins.. alot of roadwork AGAIN around the lincoln tunnel.. argh!

I got my 30D, with the grip and the 2GIG stick and some more stasj.. went to Raffles on 48th and Lexington.. had lunch.. then "tipped" the bagkeeper at the radisson so well that he got us a LIMO out to EWR again.. tough the Itialian Chafour drove like crazy and suddenly we were on the Queensborough Bridge..

I: "Sir, you know we're going to Newark, right?"
Chaf: "Noo, Noo, Kennedy"
I: "He told you Kennedy at the hotel?"
Chaf: "Yes Yes yes.."

After some tallllkin' we were on our way to NJ.. LOL!
