So Who Are The Ones Who Are Queer?

Fri Jun 30, 2006 7:10 am

Just looking at another thread in here about women and stillettos, which seems to have got heterosexual males' juices flowing, made me wonder.

Straight men like masculine things. Straight women like feminine things.

So why do straight men get turned-on by women in high heels, frilly knickers and lace bras; and why do straight women like men in masculine clothes.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

Just a thought.

Hmmm, I can't understand why this is so difficult to understand. Straight men like for straight women to wear feminine things, like lace bras and panties. Straight women like for straight men to wear masculine clothing. Both straight sides of the coin enjoy the other half to wear items that underline their roles as mentioned by the thread starter.

I'm not sure about the gay side....is everything I mentioned above opposite from the straights? Do gay men like for their partners to wear masculine clothing? Do lesbians enjoy their partners to wear feminine items? Is there a hard and fast rule (no pun intended) that is as simple and elegant as what is witnessed in the straight world?

Exactly. The clothes enhance the bodies. And masculine clothes make masculine men more attractive, while feminine clothes make feminine women more attractive. So, to extrapolate further on my original point about clothing: when you think of it, there is nothing more feminine than a female body, and nothing more masculine than a man's body: so why do straight men like women, who, after all, are the most feminine of things, and straight women like men, who are by their nature masculine?

Shouldn't straight men, who like masculine things like rugby, football, SUVs, guns etc, find men attractive too? And the opposite for straight women?

And to your point about gays: most gay men like masculine men, but for some reason an awful lot of lesbians like women who dress and act like men. I've still to get my head around that one . . .

Yes, that makes them men, which gay men will be attracted to. If I'm gay, I'm not attracted to feminine types. Ughh

You got me thinking here.....................................I guess straight men should be attracted to figure skating men, but it isn't so, so WHAT DO THEY WANT?

They must be hidden artists, I admire the body, but I won't admit it.. Viva females! At least they, being straight, can admit to" shit, this girl is pretty" You won't hear it from KROC:"Gee, that guy is more handsome than me".

Straight men hang with the guys for fun....as all share common hobbies and interests, like guns, SUVs, whatever. But when it comes to love and sexual interests.....it is the opposite that attracts. Straight guys don't hang with women as often as they hang with men simply because the two sexes do not share that much in common non-sexually.

Perhaps the confusion lies in the difference between "liking" to do something and being "attracted" to it. Straight guys may like to fish or golf, for example.....but they do not get a woody from doing it (at least I hope not). Although straight guys could shoot guns or fix a car engine with a woman as a partner.....it would not be their first choice as these are activities that make most straight women appear as fish-out-of-water. I mean, who would want to crack a beer and instruct a woman as to the most basic points of internal combustion....when a straight guy knows these things by virtual default? The opposite is also true. Would my straight girlfriend rather sit in front of her soap operas trying to explain to me why Amanda has a thing for Ridge, while at the same time swoon over Harry? I could care less honestly.....so she calls up her friend and cackles with her for an hour over it. She isn't getting "turned on" but rather simply hanging out with those of similar interests and understandings.

You're talking about two separate things here:

  • A person's admiration or fondness of another person or object
  • A person's desire to take on the characteristics that define that person or object

It is not necessary for admiration of a given set of characteristics to result in the desire to be defined by those characteristics.

I really like the way brightly-colored saltwater tropical fish look, yet I prefer black clothing and generally avoid wearing swim fins.

I'm not saying that admiration for a given set of characteristics should define that person. I'm just saying it's odd that masculine, straight men are turned-on by girly things such as feminine clothes. If they are attracted to masculine things, surely men should attract them also.

Or are straight men perpetrating a massive deception on the rest of us here?

Right. Remember Pavlov's experiments? The dogs didn't drool because they found bells tasty. They drooled because of conditioning...a result of the pairing and association of two stimuli.

Men don't look at top hats and think "Oooo...sexy". You can bet, however, that if two or three generations of men witnessed attractive, scantily-clad women wearing top hats over the course of 50 or 60 years, top hats would become synonymous with attractive, scantily-clad women.

When it comes down to it, I think you're grossly overestimating the complexity of the male mind.  Wink

Do you think you'd ever find a woman wearing men's clothing attractive, or should they stick to frillies?

Personally, I think it depends on the woman. Gwen Stefani, for example, has been known to make men's cargo pants work.
