Hope Klinsmann Continues

Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:17 am

Well I`m still sad that we just lost to Italy but I hope Klinsmann continues as coach of the German team. He created a young team that played super football during the tournament. It was fast, modern football and very entertaining to watch. If he continues with this team than we will see a very strong team in EC2008 and WC2010. Way to go Klinsmann.

Yes, well I wanted to say this, and this seems an appropriate place to put it:

Germany wasn't one of the most powerful teams entering this World Cup. It is a young side, and arguably has just a single truly world-class player in the shape of Michael Ballack.

And yet.

Aside from being the magnificent hosts everyone always knew they would be, this German side have performed above all expectations, playing an exciting, attacking brand of football. Where teams such as Brazil, England and Holland have underperformed, where Argentina ultimately flattered to deceive, and limply gone out of the competition, Germany have played wonderfully well, making use of every ounce of their ability.

German fans will doubtless be bitterly disappointed at their exit, but reaching a semi-final, and reaching it in such style, is far beyond what most observers thought this team capable, even with home advantage.

When the dust settles a little, you should be deeply proud of this team for upholding the great tradition of German football, but doing it in a manner so entertaining you even had the many of the old footballing enemies in England and Holland cheering you on.

Well done Germany.

And somehow I believe Klinsmann will go back to America, the magic is over, the old farts in DFB will take over again and destroy all that has been built by the Klinsmän!

You could be right, but I think that there will be way too many people who will persuade Klinsi to continue, so I guess that he will stay! The German football will lose a very, very important person when he would wuit and I would be sad about that!

Anyway, off to place #3, and to win the Euro2008!!! Big grin

I heard the USA has offered him the position at $3,000,000.00 a year.

Will he stay or will he go?

Yeah; Even though my interest in football is usually pretty limited, I must say I really enjoyed what they had to give, and I really appreciate the way they did it.

And if they even managed to soften the stone-hearted arch-enemy from across the channel, they must really have done somehing right.

I truely loved Klinsmann's reaction/actions/dramatics during all the games.

If you saw what he did on the sidelines, that is pretty much what i was doing in the living room.....complete with naughty words. I hope he stays with the DFB.

We simply beat the odds! I reckon, during the first Italy-Germany game 100 days before the World Cup, we were a mess, but after that, we started picking up pace and played great football throughout the tournament. We can go out with our heads up high, I'm sure the fans will appreciate all the effort made. It's sad, but we can be proud of this work and use it as a base to get even better. And for the record: I hope Klinsmann stays and continues his work! We bitterly need stability in the team's trainer staff, and if he continues, we will keep a very stable structure for the future, which is also what helped Germany obtain victories in the past.

Danke für die schönen Momente und den schönen Fußball, Nationalmannschaft. Jetzt Platz Drei und in zwei Jahren zum EM-Sieg!  bigthumbsup

The sports are sometimes a little unjust because just one wins, but it have not to cancel that a lot of teams did their best.

Actuall no, I do give a wet crap about #3 or #4.

This game is a bad joke, an insult to all the fans of the teams that didn't make it to the finals, period! List both teams as # 3 and that's it!

I couldn't care less about 3 or 4...you'll find soon enough that Germany best players will not be playing anyway...I won't watch it on TV.

btw. THAT has been my opinion for years, if not decades, I always thought that match is a disgrace and as useless as it gets!

Henceforth, all Germans will be known for their doe-eyed kindness, their utterly unthreatening soft-hearted disposition, their caring-sharing general loveliness.

Afraid not, pal. You see, I was in Gelsenkirchen and Bochum on Saturday night, and had to endure the horrible sight of 80,000 Engerlaenders, dressed up like hooligans, some of them *coughcough* had even shaved their heads to look threatening...MUAHAHAHA..they were all sitting around and bawling like little kids, trying to console each other with whiney voices.

Andreas, Andreas. I can see how you so desperately want us to share in your newfound milk of human kindness. Alas, we cannot even begin to match you in your general equability and even-tempered approach to the world. We have tried, and generally we have indeed learnt from the best over the past few weeks, but alas, no matter how we try, we cannot begin to approach the levels of gentility that you now demonstrate to the world. I can only stand on in awe as you attempt to spread the general loveliness, even to us nasty English. I would expect nothing less from a nation that has become a true beacon of humanity over the last weeks, a nation that has become a garden in a bitter and violent world.

No, no, I can't accept your kind words no matter how well-intentioned. We English, we British cannot hope to match you in this area. You are indeed the softest, most loveable people on the planet. So gentle, so adorable that a new Eden can be said to have been created in the heart of Europe, an oasis of cuddliness far removed from the vicious, violent nature of those of us not sufficiently blessed to be part of it. You Germans; one just wants to pat you on the head and give you all a big hug.

Particularly given Germany's certainty of winning the penalty shoot-out. You do indeed raise a valid point, one I had not fully considered. Italian football is going through a terrible time at the moment, with corruption scandals and so forth. The entire fan-base there is going through torture, yet Germany decided to give them a lift, just when they most needed it. Quite, quite incredible, it takes selflessness to new heights, but ones that we should not be surprised to witness. I can only prostrate myself in awe and disbelief at their conduct. Truly, we should feel humbled in the presence of such greatness.

Absolutely. and I think you can actually take it further. I'm sure in German minds, they were aware of the French felings towards Germany. So many years that the French have had an inferiority complex towards the Germans. Foreign policy and politics geard in so many ways to try and counter that balance. Yet still those strong feelings of inferiority have never gone away.

So for the germans not only to give the Italian nation a lift, but also I'm sure knowingly giving the French an opportunity to reach a World Cup final and for once have a moment where they could just for once banish those inferiority feelings towards their neighbour is really quite remarkable and says something for the wonderful change in German policy we are witnessing.

All the more remarkable when you consider that the Germans would quite easily have beaten the French in the final. But for the Germans to simply have let the French win then would have looked to obvious, far too staged. The Germans didn't wantt o embarass the French and further inflate the inferiority complex by making the French feel they were mocking them, so to avoid this, losing in the semi-finals really was an incredibly noble sacrifice which has, lets be honest, has wonderful implications for the future of Europe.

What do you mean, suspect...?? That is a fact, get used to it. Only difference will be, that from now on you'll have a coach sitting there who looks like a blown-up little boy in these ridiculous panties and the bright red face. Maybe if someone could tell him to, you know, maybe, pull on a suit, even a jogging suit (in Germany clear indicator that the owner is on Hartz IV) would be better than that!  vomit

Actually getting momentarily serious, one reason I am sad Germany didn't make it to the final, is that I met Jurgen Klinsmann some years ago when he first arrive dto play in England for Spurs. I have to say he was a throughly nice guy and an absolute gentleman with none of the ego and self-importance that so many footballers tend to show.

He was a class act all round.

Would that really help Rooney to stop being an idiot?

If not: What for?

Quoting Cornish (Reply 38):
I have to say he was a throughly nice guy and an absolute gentleman with none of the ego and self-importance that so many footballers tend to show.

Yeah, that's how he comes across at home as well, and I think that's one of the reasons why this team has captivated the country as much as they did: There are no assholes among the team (as there always were in most previous teams), they come across as humble and relaxed, but still as focused and determined.

We were really, really lucky with him as Bundestrainer so far, and I hope he'll stay.

He was a class act all round.

Aw, come on Cornish, can't you just stop that now, be nice again, and just say he was an arrogant, diving, dog-kicking, steelhelmet-wearing a$$hole who refused to sign Tshirts of nice English kids and kept on mentioning the war?  Wink
I know it's only VfB but I like it!

He was really very popular when he played over here. He had a bad reutation as a diver before he came and in his first game when he scored he celebrated by doing a beautiful dive in front of the fans. That broke the ice and he was a big success for Spurs, scoring a lot of goals and being a great ambassador for football (something Gianfranco Zola did very well when he played here too).

Of course we should have realised then that actually you Germans were really generous, kind hearted, and modest like him rather than the arrogant image that Mattheus portrayed so well  Wink
