Chance Of Dodgers And Yankees In The World Series?

Tue Jul 11, 2006 1:31 pm

It would be one of the greatest things in baseball, east coast vs west coast. Anybody have an idea on the Las Vegas odds for these two teams to make it? I know Dodgers have traditionally started falling apart after the All Star break in history but who knows what will happen this year. Let's hear who you guys think will go all the way.

The Yankees will be in this world series if President Bush becomes a homosexual, pacifistic, religion-hating member of Phi Beta Kappa.

As for the Dodgers, who gives a rat's ass?

Funny that is it called "World Series" as not many are interested outside North America.

Well done Bofredrik. Way to recycle the same tired statement for about the 200th time. Why should Soccer's "World Cup" be called world? Not everyone in the world gives a crap about it. Go watch an episode of Seinfeld and suck on Mika's Hokah for awhile.

Unless the Yankees make some significant upgrades, they are not going to even get a sniff of the World Series much less the playoff's. It's looking like the Wild Card will come out of the Central this year, so the Yankees might be hoping for a Chowd Choke Job to get into the playoff's - and hey, its a good possibility. If they did get in though, without any major upgrades, they won't go far if anywhere.

Same with the Dodgers. They play in a weak division in a weaker than usual N.L. this year. However, it stands to reason that the Astros, Cardinals, and Mets could eliminate the Dodgers in the playoff's.

I have a suggestion about the MLB playoff structure. I think that if there is a dog division (i.e., A.L. West this year) where the teams in the division are all at around .500, AND the first and second place teams in both other league divisions are at least ten games better in record than the "winner" in the dog division, then the top 4 teams advance, leaving the "winner" of the dog division out. How about it?
Maggs swings, it's a drive deep to left! The Tigers are going to the World Series!!!

As a purist, that sounds like a terrible idea. Plus it would never get much support from those with the power to change it.

I think this year, the series is more likely to be Mets-Tigers, based of the first half.

Neither the Yankees nor Dodgers are in first place in their divisions... Both teams have been inconsistent this year, and I believe that's the main reason they aren't in first.

Both teams will be lucky to even get into the playoffs unless something drastic happens to them and the first place teams in the division (San Diego and Boston).

Their pitching is no longer overpowering. While Randy Johnson is still capable, he can also get shelled, as has been the case recently.

Unless they flat out collapse, the Mets are the logical choice for the National league entry.

On another baseball topic, anyone want to start taking bets on when Dusty Baker gets fired?

Unfortunately true. It'll be the Cards and KROC's Mets fighting it out for NL honors.....and based on what I've seen so far, I'll take the Mets.

I'm thinking more likely Mets-ChiSox...

I think it's a tossup between him and Buddy Bell.....

I don't think you understand how it works. Teams around the world (on every continent excluding Antarctica) compete to qualify for the World Cup. Every continent was represented in this World Cup, so calling it a World Cup really does make sense. The announcer for the final game said it best when he said this is really the only trophy and title where you can claim yourselves world champions.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE baseball and the World Series!

Dude, its sarcasm. I understand how it works and why. However, the constant Eurotears about baseball's "World Series" is old. Especially since MLB rosters are full of players from all over the world.

If this was the end of the season, the last few days would be akin to the '95 Angels collapse  covereyes .....however, there is still much baseball to be played, and the pennant stretch is still ahead of us.....

Ha, I couldn't sense the sarcasm. Yes, when you win the World Series you are world champions, but it's not as meaningful as being world champions in the world cup.

But all I can say is: Go Twins! (have any good pitchers from the Red Wings to send this way?)

That might be true...unless one is a baseball fan / player.

Boof is back down here. Before the break you called up our closer who was pitching very well. Other than that, nothing spectacular like Liriano. Oh, and you can have RonDL (curtosy of LHMark) White back. He sucks ass down here too! And hey, if you have any pull with the Twins, see if they can hook up the Wings with a power bat or two. Home Runs here are few and far between.
