Fire In Chicago Subway

Wed Jul 12, 2006 8:02 am

Looks like there was a fire on one of the subway trains in Chicago at Clifton and Fulton. Over 100 people were trapped, looks like there were injuries, but doesn't look related at all to anything going on in India.

All the Tribune says is that there was smoke reported and the CTA has suspended service as the tunnel is being evacuated between Clark and Grand on the Blue Line.

Kinda creepy though...a fire on the L would be quite the scary thing to experience; specially underground!

Very rough today since what happened in India and how the transit companies are on high alert. At least it wasn't real bad with any deaths.

Initial reports said there was a derailment, but apparently that wasn't the case. Fortunately, as evacuation from a smoky tunnel is tough enough when the cars are upright.
