C. Ronaldo. Going, Going... Oh No He Isn't.

Wed Jul 12, 2006 6:10 pm

The Man United board have noticed that there has been some speculation around Cristiano Ronaldos future in United. Britains most popular footballer these days, has been linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona following the World Cup.

Man united today made this press release:

"The Club can confirm there is no possibility of Cristiano being sold. Cristiano recently signed a new contract until 2010 and the Club fully expects him to honour that contract.

The Club will not listen to any offers for Cristiano.

Cristiano is one of the brightest young stars in world football as demonstrated by his performances at the World Cup and Manchester United is not in the business of selling their best young players."

But what if he WANTS to leave?

United's line up could be a mess by the start of next season...

He only wants to leave because he's scared that Rooney's going to belt him when they meet up for pre-season training.

Rooney should be exiled. He is such a dumbass. Not for is actions on the field but for being himself. He is even dumber than Podolski who is hardcore stupid.
He isn't even that good.

Awww. Leave Rooney alone. He's only 20? and is a young player...blah blah blah the usual excuses.

And Podolski seemed to perform well for Germany.

Ah yes, how interesting...are we judging players by their IQ now? Maybe we should do that here on the Forum, too!! What a stupid remark!!  grumpy

I'm curious of how the relationship is between the two now.

Both Rooney and Ronaldo claim they have patched up and remain good friends. But this is for some strange reason not given much attention in the press. Hmmm...

The fact that Ronaldo has been quoted that he wishes to leave United is the bit that's hard to swallow for United fans such as myself. And no contract is gonna help if he simply doesn't wish to play for the club. Which would be a shame, as there is a huge talent in there somewhere.

Hehe, something like that...  Smile

Apparently, the reason Ronaldo doesn't want to return to Britain is not to do with Rooney or any other teammates in Manchester. He is worried about the reception he'll receive from other supporters and players, and also the English press. Vandals have even broken into the Portuguese player's house in Manchester.

Can't blame him for being concerned about returning to England, but I suggest he gives Beckham a phone call. If anyone knows how to cope after becoming England's no1 hate object following a world cup, it's him.  Smile

With a healthy dose of his agent telling him he'll get a big increase in salary if he moves to Real Madrid thrown in for good measure I'll bet.........

It is not Rooney that Ronaldo has to worry about, but more likely the Manchester United fans. By the way, I think Ronaldo didn't do anything wrong. I wonder what the English fans would be saying if say Frank Lampard had done the same to Ronaldo?

Manchester is located in England, a lot of the fans are English and so are likely to support England at International level. I think that some of these fans may not be able to get over this "incident" and may cause Ronaldo some trouble. Just my opinion!  Smile

I see your point, but I think most United fans have forgiven him, if they even think he did something wrong in the first place.

That would be a shame if such a good player would be forced to leave Premiership due to stupid campaign by english press. Rooney is the only one to be blamed for the incident.

Yup. ?

Found an interesting article on the whole matter on Uniteds Norwegian fansite, and the following quote in particular is spot on:

"(...) Because Ronaldo was of course the man who took away England's chance of winning the World Cup, wasn't he? He was the only one to blame. Not Rooney who got sent off. Not referee Elizondo. Not Gerrard, Carragher, or Lampard who all missed their penalties. Not a passive Sven-Göran Eriksson, and not the team who altogether played rather poor during their entire campaign. No, the man to blame is Cristiano Ronaldo.

This pathetic idea has been whipped up by the (English) press, who will stop at nothing to sell stories. (...)"

As a lifelong United fan (shock horror it's my local club geographically, and have always lived no more than 15 minutes drive from Old Trafford!) I probably speak for the majority of true reds in that I support England as an Englishman, but would never put England before United. No doubt some will in this case, I know season ticket holders who want Ronaldo to go, but this would be forgiven should he start sticking goals in against Chelsea, Liverpool etc. on a regular basis.

Personally I hope Ronaldo stays - it'll wind up rivals when we play them, and if Beckham could manage the abuse stirred up by the anti-United London press last time, then Ronaldo can this time.

I've really warmed to England since they started playing around the country (which is the right thing to do) but fear that once Wembley opens they will disappear back darn sarf for ever. Why should we Mancunians pay £50 to get to every game when Arsenal fans can buy a £5 tube ticket? Working in the air charter business as I do, I organised numerous flights to Germany for the World Cup, every one from London. Like it or hate it, that's where England's real fan base is, because that is where they have always played their games.

Key difference is that Beckham became "accepted" back on the England team, and therefore the English could stop the hate campaign. Ronaldo will never do English football any favours (apart from what he does for United), so there isn't much he can do to earn their forgiveness.

Oh btw, Ronaldo made another crystal clear statement yesterday:

"It is possible I will continue with United, but there are other posibilities as well.(...)I have no reason to leave the club (...) I still haven't heared from any other clubs (...) If I stay at United, I'm happy. If I leave for another club, I'm also happy. I will have to think about it for a few days."

Like I said... crystal clear.
