North Korea Talks Fail

Sat Jul 15, 2006 1:10 pm

Soon after promising to "protect" South Korea with its 1.2 million-strong military, a delegation from North Korea stormed out of bilateral talks with South Korea after a "biting" response from his South Korean counterpart.

Apparently, North Korea was interested in talking about aid. South Korea was interested in talking about missiles.

North Korea then issued a rather unhappy statement:

(Excerpt)

Quote:
"The South side will pay a price before the nation for causing the collapse of the ministerial talks and bringing a collapse of North-South relations that is unforeseeable now,” the North Koreans said in a statement before leaving for the airport, a day before the meeting was due to end.

There are some people whose "reasoning" may prove, as has been written, "baffling".

I do not believe so, HAWK21M. It was bilateral between South Korea and North Korea. The United States has been insistent that there will be no bilateral talks between North Korea and itself.

My goodness, I hope not! I think that both countries have a monumental stake in the continued peace of the region.
