It looks like it is heading for the east coast too, with temps in Northern NJ
to go to 99 on Monday, and a number of days in the high 80's to high 90's for the next several days.
I am glad that after the high numbers of death caused from past heat waves, that Chicago, Phildelphia and other cities now have programs to reduce those deaths such as public and government buildings with air conditioning open to those in need. IIRC, a major heat wave in Chicago several years ago led to over 600 excess deaths. Three years ago in Europe, heat waves there caused 1000's of excess deaths. In cites, many older and poorer people live in places that opening a window can put you at risk for criminals. Then some cannot afford an air conditioner or the electricity to run one. Fans can be a lifesaver and relatively cheap to operate.
If you know of older people who are risk, try to get them help.
