UK Troops Take Control Of Taleban Stronghold

Good news at last on the latest operation in Afghanistan  Smile

Three hundred British soldiers - backed by hundreds of American and Canadian troops - have taken control of Sangin in the southern province of Helmand.

It just shows the truly corrosive effect of Iraq, that 6 fatal casualties in a month, became such an issue here.
That was often the level in Northern Ireland, but never with anything like the media storm then.
Now, any deployment, even one with obvious benefits, like Afghanistan, is treated with such hostility.
Anything to do the the current US administration, due to the huge failures and controversy of Iraq, is going to have this now.

However, good news though this link is, (and roughly speaking, the Taliban seem to be losing 20 men for each coalition casualty), this is going to be a long, hard slog.
And the various nations in that Southern region, have barely a quarter of the number of boots on the ground needed.

Might be good news, but how many of the previous good news stories have turned out to be not entirely correct, and WADR it is going to take a better ratio than that to compensate for the recruiting campaign being run in the Middle East.
