Yet Another Wireless Network Problem...

Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:36 am

Right so my macbook arrived and now I cannot get it or my pc notebook to connect wirelessley to my network. The only computer that has net access is my desktop.

Any Ideas?

Does either machine 'see' the wireless network?

Exactly. We need more info, such as the method of encryption you use.

ok. sorry. Its on a lynksys router with firewall. I got the laptop back up, but still no mac. The mac reads the network and has a signal, but cannot go on the internet.

well, the obvious answer is that the network is password-protected.

Can the mac ping the router? Is an IP being assigned?

Go into System Preferences and click on Network. There should be a green light next to AirPort, and a message similar to:

AirPort is connected to the network XXXX. You are connected to the Internet via AirPort.

If it's not green, download a small app called MacStumbler, to search for networks and what their properties are, such as WEP protected, etc.
