Friday's Stupid Thread - Optimum French Fry Size

Sat Jul 22, 2006 4:31 am

Ha, I just realised it is Fry Day (pun intended) as I'm on vacation and waking up at 10 every day Big grin

So what is the optimum French fry size for you ? For my taste the smaller the width the better and I loathe those giant Anglo/Irish "chips".

Whatever size McDonald's is frying. Now if they could make burgers like In-N-Out they'd be on to something.....

I prefer the ones that are freshly chopped from potatoes. So not the small ones. The size of sliced oranges in the crecent chape.

The ones you call in France "pommes alumettes" -(or chips the size of a match..) are as the names suggests -very finely cut and thin chips, that, once fried, become very crusty....
Otherwise in Italy the "patatine" - or freshly cut potatoes in four or eight slices and just dumped into very hot olive-oil.
Please respect animals - don't eat them...

At the point a "fry" becomes a "wedge", well that's perfect. Add a little salt and MALT vinegar and you've got a winner. From fresh-cut potatos of course.

I prefer skinny fries (they match my waif-like svelteness), but there is something to be said for thick cut soggy chips (known in SA as "slap tjups") with lots of vinegar and salt - mmmmmmm.

I wish! Never happen though.

I kind of like Wendy's fries, they are always good.

McDonalds Fries - 1 pack of salt per size (1 for small, 2 for medium, etc). Sooo good. I can feel my cholesterol and blood pressure shooting for the sky!

The wedges they give you at Loblaws (Canadian Grocery store chain) in their hot food area are also great. $4.99 for your choice of 1 of 4 types of fried chicken, potato wedges and a large fountain pop. All to go. Damn, thats a great dinner.

Anything that in and out makes is great. Their burgers are they best of all time, but their fries could use a little work. They still are great, though.
