RIP Jack Warden

Sat Jul 22, 2006 1:57 pm

Actor Jack Warden has died at the age of 85.

His acting career lasted some 50 years, Some of his roles where the Juror with the Baseball Tickets in "Twelve Angry Men", Clark Gabels Cheif in "Run Silent-Run Deep" and played a newspaper editor in "All the Presidents Men" and won a couple of emmy's for his lead role in the 1980's show "Crazy Like a Fox".

Actually looking over his obituary I found it interesting that he served in the US Navy, US Merchant Marine, and the US Army. He had joined the Navy and spent the 1930's patroling the Yangze River in China, He joined the US Merchant Marine in 1941 and spent time on the North Atlantic Convoys. He quit that union in 1942 and joined the US Army, where he trained as a paratrooper before being assigned to the 101st airborne division. He broke his leg badly in a practice jump before D-day and spent a year in a stateside hospital recovering.

An interseting side note: "Jack Warden" was also the codename of LOT737-790847357W's plan to escape from prison.

I enjoyed his dual role (Roy L. Fuchs/Luke Fuchs) in the 1980 comedy, Used Cars.

I will always remember him as the crusty newspaper editor in The Great Muppet Caper

Wasn't he Buttermaker in the Bad News Bears TV series?

I met him once in the early 80's walking around Times Square. He was truly a nice guy. RIP Jack
