I have an immense amount of respect for the Rolling Stones. I can only hope to still be playing music when I'm 65 (and doing it well!).
I saw them a few years ago at Edison Field in Anaheim, CA
. They put on quite a show, and played a great set.
As to their hardcore drinking/drugging, well, it's simply true. Keith Richards still drinks and smokes up a storm, from what I hear. He also spent almost a decade addicted to heroin. Also sounds like Ronnie Wood is still struggling with alcoholism.
Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Mick Jagger as a singer; but he's done well by the Stones, and he's a great showman, so oh well.
If you can get your hands on the Guitar World magazine from December '02, there's a great interview with Keith Richards in there. He talks quite a bit about the various aspects of being in a band, from studio sessions to groupies.
I think Richards summed it up best (from that GW interview):
"The only difference between us and the Beatles is that we're still going."
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".
