Are You Responsible For What Other People Do?

Tue Jul 25, 2006 1:50 pm

This came about from Carlos Mencia's "No Strings Attached". I know it came out a while ago but something caught my attention and I just thought I would bring it to yours.

From his stand up, "You wanna scare me? You don't know who I am. I'm not white, I don't apologize for what my country did to become great, do you understand that?"

My inquiry: Since when are white folks (or anyone) have any responsibilities as to what their parents, grandparents, etc. did? Say your dad or mom killed someone either when you were young or before you were born, should you have to apologize for it? What kind of impact could you have had? While I hope lessons were learned, I feel as long as a modern group doesn't go off doing the same thing, what does it matter who did what way back then?

I will never be held responsible for anything anyone else ever did. Period. Kill me instead.

An exception, although I will not have children, is that parents should be held responsible for their child's actions up until age 18. If they don't agree, maybe that would be a fantastic deterrent toward having children. A good thing, IMO.
