Favorite Board Game To Play With Friends

Tue Jul 25, 2006 4:42 pm

Risk. By far Risk. All my friends love to come over and have our own tournaments of it. Everyone from the age of 16 to 50 come over. About 16 players. It is great. True World Domination! Haha.

What about you all? Favorite game to play with friends

Scene It is also a good one we like to play

Risk and Monopoly are so long, that's the problem. It might be exciting for the two or three richest players, but the rest gets bored pretty soon.

I love to play German board games like Siedler, Carcassonne or Zug um Zug. Friends come over to my place about once a week to play, after cooking a good meal together.

CRANIUM

Easily the most fun I have had playing board games, except for the whole spelling backwards thing...yeah, not so good at that one...

Other than that, Monopoly is also a favorite.

It's a little complicated. The board has all the planets of the solar system, each one the source of a specific commodity (Earth = water, Mars = robotics, etc). There is another planet on the edge of the board (through a black hole) that provides solar crystals, that can provide unlimited power. Each player has a spaceship and some cash (credits), and has to travel round the solar system buying and selling commodities (commodities are worth different amounts on different planets, that's how you make money) to gather the commodities necessary to travel through the black hole, obtain a solar crystal and bring it back to Earth.

To travel through the black hole you can lose a lot of commodities on the way, and you need a certain amount of gold, silver and diamonds to pay for the crystal. The commodities are restricted to less than those needed for all players to make the trip, so you have to trade with other players as well as on. YOu have to be sneaky and plan your journeys and trades, and keep vital commodities away from other players.

You're Scrabble picture has an illegal word: "jew".

Why illegal? Because Scrabble doesn't permitted capitalized words, and lowercase "jew" is a verb (as in "jew down"), considered offensive, Scrabble doesn't allow offensive words.

This is intended as a humorous commentary. It's not meant to be offensive.  Smile

Cranium!

How can else can you get Catherine humming away the theme to Bonanza, and I'm guessing Trigger! (wrong) William Tell Overture! (wrong) the Lone Ranger! (correct)

Or me spelling handkerchief backwards, oh-so-confidently, and forgetting the d?

Or Shellie manipulating the clay for about 7 seconds and then out pops a beautiful model in no time flat, every freaking time?

This one...

For those who do not know it, the idea is that you must "describe" a word or phrase etc to your mate by "drawing" a clue. No vocal help is allowed at all. Very frustrating and can be a completely hilarious experience with friends and a few good alcoholic beverages!

It is - it goes on a while, and can be quite frustrating, but great fun for those cold wet winter afternoons.
