Does Florida Offer Pro-Choice License Plates?

Wed Jul 26, 2006 2:59 am

Saw one of them 'Choose Life' dealies a few days ago (guess someone went for a long drive) and wondered if the state also offers a pro-choice version. If so, does anyone have a pic of it and who gets the money raised by sales? If not, why not and what would be the procedure to make such an option available?

You have to have an abortion to get one. For pro-life, you have to have a child.

Sorry, I'm sure Jeb's state only does Pro-Life. I mean, they're trying to promote a political football, not give people real choices.

Considering his term limit expires after this November's election, and we'll have a new governor sworn in come early January, I think it's safe to say he won't pose as much of a road block when it's time to submit the application  Wink

I assume the logo on the plate will be something similar to this:

Currently only the "Choose Life" plates exist. They are blatantly obvious as they are BRIGHT yellow. That group that is trying to get the "Pro-Choice" plate passed has been trying for years. Unfortuantely, the heavily Republican legislature will not let it go through.

On a side note, Florida has a HUGE number of vanity plates- somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 or so (although that is nothing compared to VA or MD).
Now it should be "IFLYDCA"

Are they blocking it or are the plate supporters not getting enough signatures? I should know more about my home state but here in Georgia you just have to pony up a certain amount of money (IIRC $300) and 750 signatures or so to get your plate as long as it is deemed non-offensive.

Of course I could see a Pro-Choice plate being viewed as offensive by some just as much as others could view Pro-Life as offensive. Personally I find the FSU license plate offensive but I don't cry to the government about it.

Can a Father have an "abortion"? What i mean is, if a mother can choose to have child or not - can a father deny a child? "Sure he is mine - but i dont want it"

IIRC, they did complete the necessary application (complete with sigs) but it did not pass legislation. I may be wrong as it was several years ago..

So not only are they trying to prevent people from choosing to have an abortion, they are also preventing them from choosing their license plates!

I saw some pro-life ones down there when I was in Florida this past week. They are bright yellow and have a kid-drawing of a little boy and girl. Very ugly license plate.

But then you'd never have been born.

If you are insinuating that your my daddy then you really are as stupid as you make yourself out to be on you profile...nevermind the age issue.

Quoting WellHung (Reply 15):
And as stated above, the application was filed and enough signatures collected to petition for the plates, so the representatives are not, in fact, representing the views of the people.

The small number of petition signers does not represent the views of the state as a whole based on the continuing conservatization of Florida. Sorry to break it to you but not everyone wants to be a bed wetting liberal. The state's voters have spoken through their choice of representatives. If NOW and the other abortion fringe groups want the plate so badly then vote in a new legislature that is agreeable with their agenda. Until then suck it up and be the needling voice of dissent.

I wonder what the pro-choice plates would look like. Maybe the background will show a stainless steel bowl full of hamburger.

So what current license plate (or petition to create a license plate) DOES represent the views of the entire state?

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 17):
but not everyone wants to be a bed wetting liberal.

Which is why, as pointed out above, there are 130 other license plates to choose from.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 17):
The state's voters have spoken through their choice of representatives.

And the representatives put in place the procedure for petition and application for different license plates. Out of curiosity, and since you are such a staunch supporter of the Florida government and the self-proclaimed expert on all its affairs, how many other license plate petitions have they blocked?

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 17):
you really are as stupid as you make yourself out to be on you profile.

Well, better to keep it in my profile than puke it out all over the forums...

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 12):
Of course you are from the exalted state of California so we should just bow down to everything you say because your state's crap don't stink.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 14):
Well Hung...you sure were an ugly ass kid.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 14):
With a face like that I would have aborted you with the license plate.

Quoting DeltaGator (Reply 14):
you don't know a damn thing about Florida or its politics so unless you get educated about it just move along and don't come back.
