Is The North Pole Danish?

Wed Jul 26, 2006 3:09 am

According to this news, there might be a chance that Denmark will be able to claim the North Pole as Danish territory:

http://freerepublic.info/focus/f-news/1234941/posts?page=16

In Danish:
http://nyhederne.tv2.dk/article.php/id-4559231.html

All I can say is that I really hope that we'll be able to claim the North Pole

And to all Canadians: You can have Hans Ø if we get the North Pole.. sounds fair to me. What do you think? Big grin

Economic reasons. There are lots of natural resources on the North Pole that Denmark would be able to earn lots of money on.

Well Denmark has invested 50 million USD in an expedition to see if we will be able to claim the North Pole. If we will be able to claim the North Pole, we'll earn those money back and lots more.

I think the North Pole should go the the Inuit...and Greenland become an independent entity without right for heavy industrial activity...
The comment about making money with the North pole is ridiculous - leave the Arctic and Antactica free of any industrial activity -PLEASE !!!

Yeah... we'll just have to keep a weary eye out for our southern neighbours though less they show intentions of a regime change up here to make it easier for them to suck our resources dry.

Hey wait a sec... just thought of somefin... If the north belongs to the Danes, then the Yanks will have a beef with them for the oil instead of us. ... and since Danes are somewhere in Europe then we've got nothin to be afraid of. So once they grab the oil and beat you up, we'll just slip right back in and take the land ... Muahahahhaha!!!!!

By all means. Take the north!  mischievous

I hope Denmark can find that the landmass underwater is a continuation of Grenland, and go ahead with their claims.

It's a proven fact that Antarctica is a continuation of the Andes Mountain range from Chile and Argentina. Thus for not only geographic reasons (those two countries are the closest to the area), but geological reasons as well, that continent belongs to the two countries. Argentina also has a military and historical valid argument that even the US acknowledges in their archives, it has been in that continent uninterrupted since 1904, when all other countries left. How many more arguments do you need for sovereignty.

Quoting Sonic99 (Reply 3):
I say it belongs to no one but the world - like Antarctica

That is just an excuse by third countries to keep their bogus aspirations to the area alive. The area belongs to Chile and Argentina, with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa also having some rights. But everyone else belongs in Antarctica as much as Russia belongs in the Amazon.

I remember reading in a school geography text book that the north pole was basically signed off by 64 countries saying that it cant be cut up and natural sources taken unless all 64 countries agree.

Now if you do get the shit hole everyone will be so pissed off they wont let you do anything with it and youll be stuck with it.

Sooner or later they would get the election if they wanted one.

And the reason why the number of people on greenland that wants to be independent is rising is because they have found oil on greenland, and Greenland doesn't want to share with Denmark. As long as they are dependent on our economy they are happy to be a part of Denmark  Yeah sure

Sucks to be them  Wink

btw the number of inhabitants on Greenland that still wants to be a part of denmark is still way larger than the amount that doesn't want to so either way i'm right  Wink

And denmark is known for repeating elections until the government gets what it wants (ie, the euro. That's not because of the government, but peoples' wish. At the time of the election it was around 49% for the Euro and 51% against.. they respected that and have been waiting ever since.. Today, it would definately be a yes, but the government is still respecting people's wish at the time of the last election.

We might as well inject a bit o' fun in this thread: Currently there's a large amount of Greenland'ish soil that's awaiting the test drills of various oil companies, but already now it's being suggested that there may be a vast oil fortune downthere. So, the Greenland'ish parliament ("Home rule" I believe it's called) wants to have all the oil profits for Greenland itself, while Danish MP's wants to have a piece of the pie. Who's entitled to what?

Oh, and I bet the current discussion has something to do with the heat wae we've been having lately around here - my kingdom for a fan or sorts! Big grin

So you don't think we'll get one? Because I know with a 100% certainty we will. And it's physically impossible for them to "just make the decission themselves". This is democracy. NO LAW (or new currency) will pull through till it has been through an election- however, if it isn't exactly the answer the government hoped for, they'll just make another one. And another one. And another one.

Of course we haven't had a new euro election yet. Everyone knows it takes time to:
a) get the permit to make one
b) get it all set up
c) make it happen.

A certain amount of years also have to pass until you can make an election about the same topic again, so "have we had one yet?"-points just doesn't count here.

NO LAW (or new currency) will pull through till it has been through an election- however, if it isn't exactly the answer the government hoped for, they'll just make another one. And another one. And another one.

Yes of course we will.. sometime, but not anytime soon, and the reason why we will get a new election is because they know that the danish people will be ready for the Euro at that time. Long live democracy!

Quoting Jap (Reply 43):

Of course we haven't had a new euro election yet. Everyone knows it takes time to:
a) get the permit to make one
b) get it all set up
c) make it happen.

Quoting Jap (Reply 43):
A certain amount of years also have to pass until you can make an election about the same topic again, so "have we had one yet?"-points just doesn't count here.

Yes it does. They could make a new election within half a year if they wanted to, but they don't because as I said, they respect people's opinion (although most danes today prefer the Euro over the Krone)

Sometimes all you can do is look them in the eye and ask " how much did your mom drink when she was pregnant with you?"

Its not relevant what Wiki says. Its probably some Canadian dude who wrote whatever you're referring to in that link hehe :P

If there is a geographic connection between Greenland and the North Pole, the land is technically ours.

Wooohoooo!! lets put it this way: It was to get a point through to you. HOW do you know that a recent survey hasnt been done? Wink

Because there aren't any records of one perhaps? That was my point.

Quoting AirPacific747 (Reply 44):

No. It's because THEY want the bloody euro. Otherwise they wouldn't make the election again. And they certainly wouldn't have made the "we'll be back!" comment when the danes voted no the first time.

Quoting AirPacific747 (Reply 44):
Yes it does. They could make a new election within half a year if they wanted to.

Not true. There're LAWS that say you have to wait xx years before you can make a new election. Otherwise, we'd have elections for a new prime minister all the time.

If we hadn't had laws, there wouldn't be ANY respect for people's opinions and there wouldn't be ANY elections. The government would just do whatever it wanted to. So they respect people's opinions only because they HAVE to- at least until they can make another election  Wink

Maybe but it sounds like you KNOW the answer already  Wink

Just like most Danes. Long live democracy  Wink

The latest survey showed the number I mentioned before rising steadily. So yeah. I believe I do.

How many years is this then? I doubt they have... Also, they need to have an election to see how many people actually WANTS the election first. They're in the process already. I believe they mentioned the election would be in 2007/2008 actually.

The latest showed that more and more danes want the Euro. Way more than 50 percent, so yeah I believe most danes want the Euro, yes  Wink

I'm pretty sure that after 4 years, we are able have another election
