Barkley For Governor?

Thu Jul 27, 2006 3:44 pm

Looks like Charles is spouting off again about running for office...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14051432/

Unfortunately this guy is popular enough in the state of Alabama to probably pull this off. I live in the same home town he is from (Leeds) and he is godlike here, in spite of him "graduating" from Leeds High School with a 0.0 GPA way back in the day.

However, he has certainly given a lot back to the local community and has been very generous with his donations for local causes.

As a basketball player, there were few better than Charles. Doesn't mean I want him as my Governor in Montgomery but I suppose he couldn't do much worse than some of the other buffoons and crooks who have held that office...

Don't know if you listen to Matt Murphy via internet streaming while over in sand land but he was talking about this yesterday and wants people to write him in this year as a protest vote. He doesn't particularly like Charles' politics but does like him as a person and also admires the fact that at least he'll really tell you what he thinks unlike the current candidates.

I'll probably hold my nose and vote for RINO Bob Riley. No way could I vote for Lucy Baxley; even after the primary and runoff I'm not aware of her taking a substantial stand on any issue. For me being divorced from a legendary ex-governor and politician/crook extradordinaire does not qualify her to be governor.

This actually came up 5-6 months ago in another thread although I can't for the life of me remember the context and it doesn't matter enough to search.

No I don't listen to Matt here, but while Barkley may not have the qualifications for office one thing he does have in this state is clout, and as you stated Sir Charles does not mince his words and could care less what toes get stepped on, so he may be able to get some things done in Alabama.

I hear ya there. Riley would seem to be the lesser of two evils, and I'm not sure the people of Alabama are ready to see another Baxley in Montgomery...

As compared to Guy Hunt, Fob James, and Don Siegelman he is the lesser of 4 evils. I miss the hilarity of Alabama politics. It is so much better than the crap we have in Georgia.

Oh, I realized I never said anything about Barkley. It would shake up the state I'm sure but I doubt that his big mouth would get him too far. Too many life long bureaucrats with fiefdoms to protect for his straight talking ways to change. But it sure would be fun to watch.

Then again, nobody thought Jesse Ventura could be elected in Minnesota, or Arnold in California.

Oh, I think he could get elected but I just don't think he would be too effective. Look at some of the challenges Arnold and Jesse have been up against. The same would happen in Alabamastan.

I should start looking into what we are electing this year in Minnesota. I can't vote myself, but the wife can, but she doesn't care for politics. This way I can tell her what to vote Big grin

BHM BAGLOCK - It's a type of parachute malfunction, very nasty as it results in a higher descent velocity than you'd have with no parachute whatsoever.

That was pointed out once "in another forum". I rather like the dual meaning although it's completely accidental.  Smile
