Yankees Win Abreau Sweepstakes

Mon Jul 31, 2006 5:01 am

The team that never stops spending acquired another big-ticket ball player today.

It shores up their injury-plagued outfield, but October is won with pitching. We'll see where it gets the Bombers in the post-season.

You summed it up right there.... with the moves they've made recently I'm wondering if Ca$hman actually understands that.

Agreed. The way the Soxes are playing both the Red and White types, the post season looks like a real possiblity at this point.

How would you like to be a minor league outfielder in Columbus or elsewhere in the Yankee system, knowing its going to be almost impossible to make the big club anytime soon.

Given the way Randy Johnson is pitching as of late, you'd have thought that Cashman would have been going after some mound help.

And why would the Phillies give up Abreau in the first place?

High Salary, low production this year, and the Phillies aren't going anywhere in the next couple of years.

They need pitching but they get another hitter. I suppose the Stankees will be watching the Fall Classic from the comfort of their homes yet again. Does Cashman have nudie pics of Steinbrenner or something? How does he keep his job?

Pujols did in order to break in with the Cards.

Not just that, but the contract has some time to run and Abreu isn't getting younger.

One reason the Phillies aren't going anywhere is bonehead moves like this one.

True, but Abreau is a class act who comes to the ballpark every day and gives 100%. So you give that up for untested prospects?

I'm not sure about this one. I'm happy to have Abreu, but what we really needed was some pitching. I'm not convinced Corey Lidle is the answer.

This will create problems. Sheffield and Matsui are both supposed to be back from injuries soon. One of them will have to move to a new position if they want to stay on the team. I think who ever has to move will not be that happy about it.

I'm glad the Yanks got Abreau. I think the Bo Sox are headed for a division title, so I think the Yanks are going for the wild card this year. Either way, It'll help the Yanks Beat out the White Sox- a team whom I hate.
