Dr. Z Vs. Dr. Phil?

Tue Aug 01, 2006 4:15 am

Which one do you find more annoying?

The self righteous Psycho-babbling TV talk show host or the Teutonic CEO/spokesman for DCX?

My vote goes for Dr. Phil.

Dr. Phil. At least Dr. Z is trying to sell you something concrete, whereas Dr. Phil is trying to fu*k with your mind.

Dr. Z is funny as hell if you take into account he's a serious German power executive, perhaps one of the five most powerful people in Germany and he's doing commercials in English and Spanish where he semi-mocks himself.

True, but Dr. Z does have a rep of being a fairly charismatic guy.

But to answer the OP's question... definately Dr. Phil.... Dr. Z ain't trying to get me to get into touch w/ my feelings. Plus he has a far cooler mustache.

Dr. Z by far. At least you can choose to avoid Dr. Phil. Not so with Chancellor Zetsche. You just never know when the commercials will come on and by the time you locate the remote, he's already 10-15 seconds into his spiel answering stupid questions. Plus, dude is in like every commercial break - TV and radio. Like any Americans have heard of this guy anyway. Just giving him a funny accent and calling him a doctor ain't the best way to sell cars. But considering the current state of the US auto market, I guess it can't hurt. Then again, with the intelligence of the average American consumer, the tactic just might work.

Dr. Z is the real Daimler-Chrysler executive? When I saw those commercials I thought it was just some actor.

No, he's for real. He and his wife live in Suburban Detroit.

She got into trouble BTW, serving alcohol to minors last year!

Yeah, I think you are right. Dr. Z is on every time, but it still makes you smile (laugh the first time, and smile after that)

Dr. Dieter Zetsche is the actual current chairman of the board of DaimlerChrysler.

He really is a doctor, he really is german and apparently the commercials are doing a terrific job when I'm looking at this thread...! Big grin

I know he has a house in Detroit, because he lived there when the merger took place and he was in charge of Chrysler division, but I think he moved back to Germany when he took charge of the whole shooting match.

He's a PhD, not an MD so that there is no confusion. In Germany it appears that PhD's use their accorded title more often than they do here.

I met him once in Detroit when meeting with Mr. Fisher and some sales training people (I was the guy sitting on the end of the row who did not say much....but since I didn't really care if they contracted with me again at that point I said my piece!)

He's pleasant and has some real charisma once he's broken the ice. Other than that he's sort of tall and all the DC people run around like chickens with their heads cut off when he shows up. He's one of those guys who makes you feel like a 30 second conversation is important and he'll remember it. Effective.

I don't know whether he's been able to clean up Chrysler, but he's helped make some improvements.

You need to get Tivo or DVR. Zip right through the commercials.

Dr. Z is cool.

I just saw the one where he's explaining to kids the DC has the most efficient and cleanest SUVs in the world....they're filthy and he has to explain that it's a joke (inferring that he's German and humor is different over there)

....and a kid asks him the important question....

"Is that moustache real??"

Wonder what he drives.

Maybe he is not as stupid and doesnt own a "target rich" vehicle as Schrempp who had his $850,000 armored Mercedes equiped with GPS/Lo-Jack stolen in Stuttgart in 2004...I remember vividly when half of Poland was looking for that car in its borders but somehow rumor had it that it went rather quickly to Russia via the Belarus border.

Except for some college professors who REQUIRE you address them as Dr. Bighead (I found this a fitting name for these people). I actually dropped a class after seeing the syllabus.
