Let's See Your Metro

Wed Aug 02, 2006 1:02 am

Hi,

There's been a few train threads, so...
Below is a map on the London Underground, with my details included. I quite often take the bus, and occasionally the Underground - prefer the Underground, apart from the damn heat and stairs!

So, for those that live in cities (sorry ANC) let's see a picture of your metro/subway plan.

Regards

I just moved to The District this summer, and adore trains. Yesterday, I went on all of the 5 lines. It isn't that big, especallly when you have lived in Japan and spent lots of time in Tokyo (60 local/commuter lines) but it is good. Here is the map:

I live at Eastern market, on the Orange and Blue lines

Well Miami Metro is not a great one. It sucks unless you live right near the stations which I dont, but they are expanding it and adding a new street cars which will go near my house.

That is are metro which are subway type trains except as many know in Miami you cant go under the ground so everything is above ground of course.
Miami also has a monorail system called the people mover which does some loops around Downtown Miami.

But they are planning on expanding the Metrorail alot and it will actually be a pretty good system once the project is finished in who knows how many years.

New York City subway system. I don't take it very often (only when I'm in the city and have to go far from where I've been and it's too hot or cold or rainy, because, honestly, I'd rather walk!).

But it's the closest one to me!

SBY is far too small to have a metro system. I'm moving to ROC at the end of August for college, so that will have to do.

Rochester has no subway, but it does have a bus system. Here's a map. (PDF)

Speaking of the buses in Rochester, they seem to be wearing a US Airways livery. Here are some pics for comparison:

Keep in mind these are some far distances. There is also a plan to extend the red line all the way to Santa Monica as well as expanding into East LA.

São Paulo's metro network is pretty small for the city size.

Only 3 lines (blue, green and red)!!! - But there's one more under construction, the yellow line.

Unfortunately, the city can't do either as they just flushed away $40+ million on the fast ferry debacle.

Interesting that you spelled incompetent wrong. Anyway, it has nothing to do with the competency of Los Angeles, it has to do with the incompetency of the construction companies who screwed up to the point that Henry Waxman was pressured by NIMBYs to halt subway building. Further, Zev Yaroslavsky is an even worse enemy of transport

Since Aeroflot777 already posted the Moscow Metro and I don't want to feel left out, my home town of Omsk has a metro (which is under construction) so I'm going to post the map of the city that I like the most after Omsk - here's Kazan's metro. I was in Kazan yesterday and tried out their metro - great looking stations and awesome automated trains. The metro was opened a little less than one year ago so it still has that "new metro smell" to it!  Smile Here's the map (bilingual - Russian and English, while the metro itself is bilingual - Russian and Tatar)

I absolutely love it. The way it functions, the way it was designed, and the seemingless ease of getting anyway (which in fact is far from the truth but hey...)
